From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kurt Zouma scored his first Everton goal as the Toffees beat Bournemouth 2-0 at Goodison Park.

The Cherries impressed for large parts of the first half and saw David Brooks hit a post after 18 minutes.

Everton, though, grabbed the opening goal just after the hour mark when Zouma headed home Digne's cross.

The hosts then wrapped up the three points when substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted Lookman's low cross in added time.

The atmosphere at Goodison Park is quite subdued, perhaps understandable given some of Everton's recent performances. There hasn't been much to excite either set of fans yet this afternoon.

Big chance for King. Stanislas puts in a cross, which drops to Fraser in acres of space. He plays the ball into the path of King, who can't quite connect with his shot and allows Pickford to save at his feet.

Everton don't look convincing defensively. The visitors, mainly through Fraser and Brooks, are causing a lot of problems and look the most likely to open the scoring.

Everton 0-0 Bournemouth

Bournemouth should be in front. Stanislas beats Zouma and plays the ball into the path of Brooks. The Welshman picks his spot, beats Pickford but sees his effort strike the post.

The visitors look dangerous whenever they break. Brooks looks to feed the ball into the path of King, but there's too much on his pass. Everton will need a big improvement on this opening 20 minutes if they're to get anything from the game.

The home fans are growing increasingly frustrated. A couple of decisions from Anthony Taylor go against Everton, and then Zouma plays a dangerously casual backpass to Pickford.

Bournemouth work the ball nicely on the edge of the box and Smith is fouled, to the anger of the home fans, on the edge of the box. He's receiving some treatment having taken a knock to the head. The away side will have a free kick in a dangerous position...
