Newcastle United battled to an entertaining 3-3 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday night, to leave the league leaders seven points clear.

Eddie Howe’s men started brightly in the first half and found themselves ahead after Alexander Isak lashed in a fantastic effort from outside the box. But the lead didn’t last long after the break, with Mo Salah providing a lovely assist for Curtis Jones to level it.

It was Newcastle who re-took the lead after Isak combined with Anthony Gordon before the England winger squeezed a finish past Caoimhin Kelleher, but the introduction of Trent Alexander-Arnold changed the game as he set up Salah’s equaliser for 2-2.

The league leaders were in the ascendancy from there, and they looked like they had won it when Salah found the bottom corner with a shot on the turn, only for Kelleher to make a mistake to allow Fabian Schar to slide in and have the last say.

What a game this is turning out to be.

The hosts find themselves in space in possession in midfield, and Guimaraes plays a diagonal pass to Isak. He controls it well and slips his own pass to the overlapping Gordon. The England winger still has plenty to do as he gets into the box, but he manages to squeeze a finish past Kelleher for 2-1.

CLOSE! Another good chance for the away side as the cross is headed away into the path of Gakpo, whose half-volleyed effort is deflected behind.

From the corner, the ball comes out to Salah, who hooks a great diagonal cross to Gakpo at the back post. Pope has missed it, so Gakpo simply heads across goal to present the chance for the tap-in, but Nunez can’t get onto the end of it!

It’s a great finish too, as Salah latches onto the ball on the right wings and feeds in a great low cross towards Curtis Jones in the box. It’s coming quickly but Jones flashes a great finish past Pope at the near post!
