Fulham struggled against Arsenal on the opening day but were much improved against Leeds, eventually going down 4-3. But they will need to tighten up defensively, having already shipped seven goals and looking highly susceptible at the back, something which proved their undoing in the Premier League two years ago.
Villa got off to the perfect start beating Sheffield United and will be eager to continue that momentum in what could well be a battle between two relegation fighters come the end of the season. Follow all the action below:
36 min
Fabinho wins the ball in midfield and finds Alexander-Arnold to his right. The right-back lines up a shot, driving his effort wide of the left post.
34 min
GOAL! Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal (Robertson)
Robertson makes amends for his earlier error. Alexander-Arnold is the creator again, whipping a cross to the back post. The ball deflects towards Robertson, who does well to chest it down and prod his finish past the onrushing Leno. Liverpool, having been completely dominant, now lead.
33 min
Keita does well to collect a fizzed in Alexander-Arnold pass, turn and fire a shot at goal from a tight angle. Leno punches it away.
30 min
That’s another demonstration, if one was needed, of the confidence this Liverpool team are playing with now. The Arsenal goal came hugely against the run of play and could easily have deflated Klopp’s team. But they responded instantly, regaining control of the game. Arsenal will still be hopeful of causing more problems on the break, though, because Liverpool are clearly not infallible.
28 min
GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal (Mane)
That didn’t take long. Liverpool are deservedly level, in part vecasue of some brilliant work from Salah, who bursts down the right, cuts inside and muscles past Tierney, before curling a shot towards the far corner. Leno saves, but Mane is there to tap in the rebound from a few yards out.
25 min
GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 Arsenal (Lacazette)
Arsenal lead! They break for the first time tonight through Maitland-Niles, whose ball into the middle bounces up of Robertson and straight to Lacazette. He hits a scruffy volley into the ground, but it’s enough to wrong foot Alisson, falling backwards and unable to stretch enough to save. It’s a very sloppy goal from the hosts’ point of view, but Arsenal won’t care.
24 min
Arsenal are caught out by the intensity of Liverpool’s high press. Keita wins the ball just outside the box, lays it off to Wijnaldum and the Dutchman’s shot rolls straight into the arms of Leno.
21 min
Off the woodwork! A corner is headed out to Alexander-Arnold, whose driven shot deflects off Bellerin and onto the bar. A near miss for the home side as they continue to turn the screw.
19 min
Arsenal have hardly touched the ball early on here, though that’s clearly part of the gameplan. But Liverpool are squeezing them, forcing them further and further back, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult.
