From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Six fixtures get underway at 3pm, with Championship leaders Norwich City travelling to Barnsley. Brighton are hoping to avoid the same fate as West Brom when they welcome Blackpool to the Amex, with the Seasiders having produced one of the shocks of the third round.
Sheffield United are looking to keep their momentum alive after this competition brought their first win of the season against Bristol Rovers in the previous round. Meanwhile, West Ham are in flying form and won’t want to risk any negative drop when they take on Doncaster. All-Championship ties between Millwall and Bristol City and Nottingham Forest’s trip to Swansea complete the mid-afternoon ties. Follow all the action live below:
Cheltenham 1 - 0 Man City - May
59 mins: GOAL! Ben Tozer puts one of his famous long throws into the Man City box. Charlie Raglan tips it on and the ball drops for Alfie May who pokes it past Zack Steffen and into the back of the net. It’s a huge goal for Cheltenham Town!
Cheltenham 0 - 0 Man City
54 mins: Jesus makes a good run in behind the lines and he’s picked out with a lovely threaded pas by Phil Foden. He carries the ball into the box and looks to place it in the far bottom corner but doesn’t get enough curl on the shot and sends it wide. That one’s a definite chance.
Cheltenham 0 - 0 Man City
51 mins: A Man City free kick is swung into the box from the right wing. It’s comes to Gabriel Jesus who isn’t expecting the ball and it hits him in the face and bounces away. Can you call that a chance? I don’t think so.
Cheltenham 0 - 0 Man City
48 mins: Yellow card for Charlie Raglan who arrives late on Gabriel Jesus and takes out the Man City forward. Raglan joins Boyle in the book after he picked up a card in the first half. Foden whips the free kick into the box and it’s defended well by the home side.
Cheltenham 0 - 0 Man City
Second half: The Robins kick off the second half.
Cheltenham 0 - 0 Man City
45+6 mins: Half time. Fantastic work from Cheltenham who have held Man City over the first 45 minutes. It’s goalless at the break, could the Robins actually pull off a surprising win in the second half?
Cheltenham 0 - 0 Man City
45+3 mins: Ben Tozer sends one of his famous long throws into the Man City box and the Robins win a corner from in. Clements swings the corner ball into the box and Steffen punches it strongly away.
Cheltenham 0 - 0 Man City
45 mins: Six minutes of added time to play.
Cheltenham 0 - 0 Man City
44 mins: There’s more fireworks here than the New Year’s Celebrations. That’s an exaggeration but there’s been about three minutes of play lost that will get added on. Josh Griffiths gets the game back underway.
