From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Six fixtures get underway at 3pm, with Championship leaders Norwich City travelling to Barnsley. Brighton are hoping to avoid the same fate as West Brom when they welcome Blackpool to the Amex, with the Seasiders having produced one of the shocks of the third round.
Sheffield United are looking to keep their momentum alive after this competition brought their first win of the season against Bristol Rovers in the previous round. Meanwhile, West Ham are in flying form and won’t want to risk any negative drop when they take on Doncaster. All-Championship ties between Millwall and Bristol City and Nottingham Forest’s trip to Swansea complete the mid-afternoon ties. Follow all the action live below:
Cheltenham 1 - 2 Man City
90 mins: City are trying to run down the clock with possession. There’s going to be four minutes of stoppage time to play.
Cheltenham 1 - 2 Man City
87 mins: That should be enough for Man City. Alfie May gives away a free kick deep in City’s half. The Robins have given it a good go but they look tired. Can they put together one last attack?
Cheltenham 1 - 2 Man City - Jesus
84 mins: GOAL! Heartbreaking. Fernandinho flicks the ball over the top. Raglan looks to be playing Jesus onside and if VAR were here the lines would be being drawn. It isn’t though and the offside flag stays down. Jesus brings the ball down with a beautiful touch, turns towards goal and smashes it home.
Cheltenham 1 - 1 Man City - Foden
81 mins: GOAL! Cancelo whips a good cross in from right hand side. Foden times his run into the box perfectly as Long is playing him onside. He meets the cross and taps it past Griffiths to put City back on level terms.
Cheltenham 1 - 0 Man City
78 mins: Joao Cancelo comes on for City replacing Benjamin Mendy. Time is running out for Pep’s side to get back into this. A wild cross from the right wing is kept in by Torres. He passes to Laporte whose ball into the box is booted clear.
Cheltenham 1 - 0 Man City
75 mins: Fernandinho tries to play Jesus in behind with an aerial ball over the top. Raglan gets his head to the ball and flicks it out for a corner. Mahrez whips in the corner ball but it’s belted forward by Lewis Freestone. Into the last 15 minutes for Cheltenham to hold on.
Cheltenham 1 - 0 Man City
72 mins: Denied! Phil Foden slots a through ball into the box for Riyad Mahrez who is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Josh Griffiths is smart and he charges at Mahrez who then goes for power over placement and strikes it straight at the goalkeeper who makes the save.
Cheltenham 1 - 0 Man City
70 mins: George Lloyd is taken off and replaced by Sean Long for Cheltenham. A Man City free kick is whipped into the box by Gundogan but it flies over everyone and goes out of play.
Cheltenham 1 - 0 Man City
67 mins: An enterprising run from Phil Foden on the right side almost ends in glory as he brings the ball into the box and fires away a shot but it gets blocked and the Robins can clear away the ball.
Dias and Gundogan replace Harwood-Bellis and Doyle for Man City.
