Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow all the action from the FA Cup’s fourth round ties this afternoon.

Six fixtures get underway at 3pm, with Championship leaders Norwich City travelling to Barnsley. Brighton are hoping to avoid the same fate as West Brom when they welcome Blackpool to the Amex, with the Seasiders having produced one of the shocks of the third round.

Sheffield United are looking to keep their momentum alive after this competition brought their first win of the season against Bristol Rovers in the previous round. Meanwhile, West Ham are in flying form and won’t want to risk any negative drop when they take on Doncaster. All-Championship ties between Millwall and Bristol City and Nottingham Forest’s trip to Swansea complete the mid-afternoon ties. Follow all the action live below:

Brighton 1 - 0 Blackpool - Bissouma

27 mins: GOAL! There it is. An absolute wonder strike from Yves Bissouma. It’s his first home goal from Brighton. He sets himself from 25-yards and blasts the strike into the far top corner. Beautiful.

Brighton 0 - 0 Blackpool

23 mins: What was I saying? Blackpool’s Luke Garbutt takes a free kick and curls one towards the top corner. Christian Walton does well to get across and tip it behind. Very close from Blackpool, it’s their best chance so far.

Brighton 0 - 0 Blackpool

21 mins:  Adam Webster wins the ball from a corner and heads it strongly over the bar. Brighton are getting closer to scoring, it seems like only a matter of time before they take the lead. Set pieces are causing Blackpool some trouble.

Sheffield United 0 - 0 Plymouth

18 mins: That would’ve done him a world of good as Rhian Brewster comes close to his first goal for Sheffield United. He meets a cross and heads it down, across goal but it goes wide of the goal and Billy Sharp is unable to reach it before it goes out of play.

Brighton 0 - 0 Blackpool

17 mins: Yves Bissouma shifts the ball onto his right foot just outside the box and has a shy at goal but he pulls his shot well wide of the target.

Millwall 0 - 0 Bristol City

15 mins: Bristol City had been controlling the match but Millwall come close to claiming the first goal. Mason Bennett drills a low left-footed strike which is heading for the near post but Max O'Leary makes an excellent save to keep it out.

Barnsley 0 - 0 Norwich

13 mins: Barnsley are dominating this one. They get two quick chances with Woodrow and Palmer. First Woodrow takes a swerving shot that Norwich goalkeeper Krul taps away. Palmer takes up the ball but is denied by Krul as well. Good work from the Norwich keeper.

West Ham 1- 0 Doncaster

10 mins: It should be two! Manuel Lanzini is fed the ball in the box as West Ham burst forward on the counter. He collects the ball and side foots his effort wide of goal.
