Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow all the action from the FA Cup’s fourth round ties this afternoon.

Six fixtures get underway at 3pm, with Championship leaders Norwich City travelling to Barnsley. Brighton are hoping to avoid the same fate as West Brom when they welcome Blackpool to the Amex, with the Seasiders having produced one of the shocks of the third round.

Sheffield United are looking to keep their momentum alive after this competition brought their first win of the season against Bristol Rovers in the previous round. Meanwhile, West Ham are in flying form and won’t want to risk any negative drop when they take on Doncaster. All-Championship ties between Millwall and Bristol City and Nottingham Forest’s trip to Swansea complete the mid-afternoon ties. Follow all the action live below:

Brighton 1 - 1 Blackpool - Madine

45+2 mins: GOAL! Gary Madine equals for the visitors. He makes a run in front of his marker to meet a cross and guide the ball past Walton in goal.

Barnsley 0 - 0 Norwich

Half time. The only FA Cup match to go into the break without a goal.

Michael Jones23 January 2021 15:46

Swansea 2 - 0 Nottingham Forest

44 mins: Ryan Manning crosses on in from the left but Connor Roberts can't direct his header towards goal.

Sheffield United 1 - 0 Plymouth - Basham

39 mins: GOAL! The Blades are in front! Chris Basham scores his first goal in two years for Sheffield United.  Billy Sharp takes over the ball inside the area and floats a lovely cross to Basham who arrives onto it and buries home his header.

Brighton 1 - 0 Blackpool

39 mins: Tau turns with the ball and curls one over the top corner, but the flag goes up for offside so wouldn't have counted anyway.

Michael Jones23 January 2021 15:40

Sheffield United 0 - 0 Plymouth

37 mins: Sheffield United should have had a penalty. I’m not sure which defender it was but he raises his hands over his head and blocks a goalbound shot. VAR took a look at it as well but no luck for the Blades.

Michael Jones23 January 2021 15:39

Millwall 0 - 1 Bristol City - Diedhiou

32 mins: GOAL! Famara Diedhiou converts a penalty for Bristol City who take the lead against Millwall. Cool finish from him.

West Ham 2 - 0 Doncaster - Yarmolenko

32 mins: GOAL! Andriy Yarmolenko doubles West Ham’s lead. It’s his first goal for the Hammers since September and any fears of an upset seem to have been put to rest at the London Stadium.

Michael Jones23 January 2021 15:33

Swansea 2 - 0 Nottingham Forest - Grimes

29 mins: GOAL! Matt Grimes doubles Swansea’s lead. They’ve been dominant in this half. A corner comes to Grimes who takes a left-footed shot from about 25-yards out. The ball flies through the players in the box and sneaks in at the near post.
