From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mbappe gave Monaco a 19th-minute lead shortly after Fabinho had missed a penalty for the visitors, and they went further ahead when Dortmund defender Sven Bender headed into his own net.
Ousmane Dembele pulled one back for Dortmund in the 57th minute but another defensive mistake allowed Mbappe to break away and grab a third goal for the Ligue 1 side. Shinji Kagawa gave the German side hope with a neat finish six minutes from time.

Dortmund: 51/100
Monaco: 24/5
Draw: 39/10
23 mins: Brief breaks in play as Lemar jumps up to win a header and lands flat on his back.
25 mins: Dortmund have responded to going a goal behind with a good spell of possession, Kagawa stationed just in front of the defence and largely dictating the rhythm of their attack.
But they're struggling to penetrate Monaco's two banks of four at the moment, and the crowd groan in frustration as their team is forced to play the ball all the way back to Burki in goal.
28 mins: A chance for Monaco, as Toure whips in a very promising cross from out wide on the left. But it skims across the face of goal and ends up evading everybody, and goes out for a goal-kick.
31 mins: A superb chance for Dortmund to score the equaliser!
The ball is swung out wide to Schmelzer on the wing who twists Raggi inside and out, darting into the box and spotting the run of Kagawa. The ex-Manchester United man decides to shoot first-time, on the turn, but prods the ball just wide of Subasic's right-post.
That was a fine chance.
33 mins: Another good chance for Dortmund, with the ball being stabbed through Monaco's defence and into the feet of Dembele, but the young striker gives chase fractionally too soon and is whistled for offside.
He shot wide anyway.
36 mins: Disaster for Dortmund.
Raggi is allowed to storm forward completely unimpeded down the left, and the full-back whips in a vicious cross intended for Falcao.
Bender knows he has to do something, and attempts to head the ball out of the path of Falcao and away for a corner. Instead he smashes it past Burki and into his own net.
39 mins: Dortmund have enjoyed 67% of possession thus far and yet they're two goals down. You would think they now need to score a goal tonight if they've any hope of progressing into the semi-finals.
