Re-live updates after Max Holloway and Chan Sung Jung squared off in a featherweight main event
Max Holloway produced a stunning knockout of Chan Sung Jung at UFC Singapore on Saturday, before the “Korean Zombie” retired from mixed martial arts.
Former champion Holloway got the better of the 36-year-old across the first two rounds of the featherweight main event, nearly securing a D’Arce choke in the second frame. However, Sung Jung had his moments, wobbling the Hawaiian more than once.
A frenzied striking exchange at the start of the third round promised disaster for one of the two men, and it was Sung Jung who hit the mat face-first when Holloway landed a clean overhand right.
There were rumours that this clash with Holloway, 31, might be Sung Jung’s last fight, and that proved to be the case, with the South Korean removing his gloves after the bout, kneeling on the canvas, and bowing his head in a tearful goodbye to MMA. Smith’s guard in the striking exchanges is so pronounced; Spann definitely has the option to work the body more.
Ooh, a jab lands for Smith but the cross is just out of range!
Spann lands hard now with a left hook, and Smith is hurt! He scurries back to the fence and hits the deck!
Spann briefly looks to grapple, trying for a guillotine, but he realises his best option is to throw some ground and pound!
Smith is cogent and thinking about an armbar, but it’s not on. There’s a lot of time left in the round, and Spann is content to control his opponent for now.
He eventually backs off and lets Smith stand, and my word, Smith’s left eye is smeared with blood and is badly swollen, too... It looks awful.

Spann lands a good right hand over the top of a low kick from Smith.
Nice left hook from Spann! Smith decides to try for a takedown, and he dumps his compatriot to the mat.
Spann briefly attempts a guillotine, but he quickly gives up on that.
Good work from Spann to scramble and make it to his feet. Smith covers up to block a left hook.

Spann is the favourite, despite having lost the pair’s last clash. He’s out of range of a Smith head kick early on.
Spann with a front kick to the body. He misses with a winging left hook. Another stabbing front kick to the body.
Smith lands a decent left hook, but he’s getting backed up to the fence. He covers up to block a one-two then lands a counter left.
OH! Hard shot from Spann, but Smith drops him to a knee with a low kick. Now it’s Smith who flicks out a front kick to the mid-section.
Again Spann stumbles upon a leg kick from Smith, who pounces with a flurry of punches upstairs!

Next up, the co-main event: Former title challenger Anthony Smith takes on Ryan Spann in a rematch at light-heavyweight.
Smith submitted his fellow American in 2021, and although Spann bounced back with two straight wins, he lost his last fight – against Nikita Krylov, also via submission.
Meanwhile, Smith is 0-2 since beating Spann. The veteran lost to Magomed Ankalaev via TKO before suffering a decision defeat by Johnny Walker.

Giga Chikadze def. Alex Caceres via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
Surprising! Most people would’ve said Caceres took Round 1 at least.
But Chikadze, in Indy Sport’s view, did enough to take 2 and 3.

Caceres checks an inside low kick. He’s getting big reactions out of Chikadze with his feints.
Hard right hand lands for Chikadze. It’s all up for grabs with 90 seconds to go...
Caceres misses with a spinning back kick and is tagged by a few punches as his back faces Chikadze.
He regroups and gets back on the front foot. The featherweights trade body kicks.
Another spinning back fist lands for Caceres, but Chikadze eats it and unloads a one-two!
Frantic pace in these final seconds... Chikadze with a rolling kick to the head, wow!

Another right cross lands heavily for Chikadze, who then hammers a kick into the calf of the American.
Chikadze is landing with increasing frequency, and Caceres looks increasingly bothered by these shots.
Decent step-in lead hook by Caceres. Now he puts together a nice combination, finishing by skimming his shin off the top of Chikadze’s head.
One-two on point for Caceres, but Chikadze responds in kind.

Chikadze kicks low, Caceres throws a cross to the body.
Chikadze catches a low kick and slings a right cross over the top! Now he lands a right hook as Caceres tries a body lock.
Did Chikadze do enough to snatch that round? Possibly...
