Usyk vs Dubois betting tips:
Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will aim to extend his professional record to a perfect 21-0 when he takes on Daniel Dubois in Poland this weekend.
Boxing fans were hoping to see the Ukrainian fighter lock horns with Tyson Fury in an undisputed heavyweight title bout.
However, negotiations between their promoters collapsed after Fury made a series of demands that Usyk deemed unreasonable.
He has now decided to put his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts on the line against Dubois, who is the mandatory challenger.
The bookmakers have installed Usyk as the overwhelming favourite to beat his 25-year-old British opponent at Stadion Wroclaw.
However, Dubois has won 18 of his 20 professional bouts by knockout, so he is given a puncher’s chance of success on Saturday.
We have analysed both fighters and provided the reasons for our best bets below.
Back Usyk to outclass Dubois
Usyk was widely regarded as one of the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters when he stepped up to heavyweight in 2019.
The former Olympic champion had dominated the cruiserweight division for years, rattling off impressive victories over the likes of Mairis Briedis and Tony Bellew.
Some fans were concerned that he would struggle to deal with the power of the world’s best heavyweights, but he has made a mockery of those predictions.
He began his foray into the heavyweight division with a victory over Chazz Witherspoon, who stepped in after scheduled opponent Tyrone Spon failed a drugs test.
Witherspoon came into the bout with a 38-3 professional record but he was outclassed and ultimately retired in his corner after round seven.
Usyk then gave away almost 40 pounds in weight against Derek Chisora when they met at Wembley in November 2020.
He had a couple of scares in the opening rounds, but his superior footwork, speed and technical ability shone through as he won via a unanimous decision.
The Ukrainian star then defied his underdog status by comprehensively outpointing Anthony Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium the following year.
That result, which earned him the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts, sent shockwaves through the heavyweight division.
Usyk won the rematch via a split decision in Saudi Arabia last summer but most viewers felt he did enough to earn a unanimous result.
He now boasts a formidable 20-0 record, so it is easy to see why he is the heavy favourite to beat Dubois on Saturday.
The champion is best priced at just 1/2 to win this fight by KO, TKO or DQ. However, it is worth noting that Usyk has not managed to knock out any of his opponents since moving up a weight class.
Witherspoon retired in his corner, but both Chisora and Joshua went toe-to-toe with the Ukrainian fighter for 12 rounds.
That bodes well for Dubois’ chances of going the distance in Poland this weekend. Dynamite has only ever lost once in his professional career – a 10th round stoppage against Joe Joyce back in November 2020.
That stoppage only came about after he sustained a serious eye injury and not as the result of a KO or TKO. Dubois appears to have a solid chin and he could hang in there against Usyk.
Odds of 14/5 at Unibet on Usyk to win by decision or technical decision is therefore our standout bet on the bout.
Tip: Usyk to win by decision – 14/5 with Unibet
Bet on over 6.5 rounds in Usyk vs Dubois
Dubois will be full of confidence after beating Bogdan Dinu, Jose Cusamano, Trevor Bryan and Kevin Lerena in his last four bouts.
That helped to banish the memories of that painful defeat to Joyce and it left him with a professional record of 19-1.
His performance against Lerena was concerning, as he was knocked down three times in the opening round.
He recovered and managed to win via a third round TKO, but he will be obliterated if he fights like that against Usyk.
Dubois certainly lacks Joshua’s pedigree and experience but he is tough enough to keep going past the midway point in this bout if he follows a similar approach to Joshua and Chisora.
He fought on until the 10th round against Joyce, who is far larger and more powerful than Usyk, which augurs well.
It is also worth mentioning that Usyk’s last 12 fights have gone over 6.5 rounds.
He has not stopped an opponent inside 6.5 rounds since clashing with the unheralded Johnny Muller in Ukraine back in August 2015, so it may take him a while to get going against Dubois this weekend.
Tip: Over 6.5 rounds – 8/13 with William Hill
