Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Conor McGregor suffered the second defeat of his UFC career after being submitted by unbeaten UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in arguably the biggest event in the history of the UFC, but the fight descended into chaos immediately after it ended as both fighters were involved in post-match brawls.

A typically acrimonious build-up to the fight, with McGregor ending up in a New York courtroom after he attempted to attack his rival backstage at a UFC event in April, unsurprisingly led to bad blood between the pair, but no one was prepared for the scenes that followed the fight.

After dominating McGregor throughout the first three rounds, Khabib choked McGregor out to force him into submitting, but reacted by jumping over the Octagon fence to confront his teammates, while members from his own stable jumped into the Octagon to attack McGregor. Re-live all the action here.

Essential information:

When is UFC 229?

Khabib vs McGregor will take place on 6 October 2018, or 7 October for UK fans. The fight takes place in Las Vegas, which means it’s going to be a very late night (or very early morning) for all British fight fans.

Where is UFC 229?

Like most of the UFC’s big events, UFC 229 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

It’s the same venue that staged Mayweather vs McGregor, as Nurmagomedov’s unanimous decision victory over Edson Barboza back in December 2017.

What are their records?

  • Nurmagomedov: 26 fights, 26 wins. (8 KOs, 8 submissions, 10 decisions.)
  • McGregor: 24 fights, 21 wins, 3 losses. (18 KOs, 1 submission, 2 decisions.) (All defeats by way of submission.)

Where can I watch it?

BT Sport.

Tony Ferguson after his victory

"No, man, no [I didn't rush my return].

"Where you at, McNuggets, you f***ing piece of sh*t?"

Well, that was chaos. Utter chaos.

Guess what's next? Khabib vs Conor McGregor. It's time.

Adam Hamdani7 October 2018 05:18

We're literally shaking with excitement here.

Maybe it's because the office is a little bit cold, who knows.

Either way, it's time!!!

Adam Hamdani7 October 2018 05:23

Look at the state of both of them.

Ferguson vs Pettis was a war.

Adam Hamdani7 October 2018 05:24

"I came back for the love of fighting. I am looking forward to putting a beating into his glass jaw."

McGregor says he is war ready. He walks in first.

Adam Hamdani7 October 2018 05:26

Luke is sticking with his prediction of Khabib round two.

I'm going to go interesting and say McGregor wins this by knockout but I have genuinely no idea when. Please don't pressure me into saying when.

Adam Hamdani7 October 2018 05:28

McGregor is on his way in. He seems playful but he knows what he has to do.

Just before he comes out he utters the words 'home, sweet home'.

THIS IS SO EXCITING.

Conor's enjoying himself as he enters the octagon.

Khabib's music comes on and it's a rapture of boos around the arena. There is a crowd favourite here and it's not the Russian.

Adam Hamdani7 October 2018 05:32

If you're nervous, you're not the only one.

Luke and I both are and we're not really sure why.

This is huge. Stick with our coverage of the UFC 229 main event.

"IT'S TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Adam Hamdani7 October 2018 05:37

We're off. The biggest fight in UFC history has begun.
