From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Hadleigh Parkes' try inside just 70 seconds set the tone before fly-half Gareth Anscombe took over from the tee to add a further 20 points as the hosts hit the front and never looked back.
Ireland scored with the final play of the game to avoid being left scoreless but it was a day to forget for them in Cardiff.

18 mins: England attack off loose ball and are nearly in again. Russell throws a loose pass and the ball ends up in the hands of Sinckler, who passes inside to Youngs. It goes through the hands, Tuilagi to Vunipola, who throws a nice pass to Slade. The 13 drifts wide and as May cuts in on a switch, Slade tries the chip ahead, but it hits Graham, bounces back into himself and into touch.
20 mins: TRY FOR ENGLAND...is it? We got to the TMO and Ben Youngs may have secured the bonus point by the 20-minute mark!
20 mins: It's...no try! Youngs clearly knocks the ball forwards as he challenges for it, and Scotland have the 5m scrum. It came from a lovely move though as Daly took the ball to the line, shimmied his way through it and flicked an offload to Nowell who kicked on for Youngs to chase. Luckily Sotland had Johnson there too and he just put the scrum-half off enough to prevent the try.
24 mins: England are rumbling through the phases here, though Scotland finally put up a stern defence and keep them out on the edge of the 22. Watson eventually gets a chance to attack the ruck, but there's no release and he's penalised and Farrell will go for the points in front of the posts.
25 mins: Farrell kicks his first penalty of the day and extends the lead. 24-0
27 mins: England are guilty of their first indiscretion of the day as Genge clearly hits Price late - and right in front of the referee. That was a stupid one from the loosehead prop, and to be honest there's no arm in it either.
29 mins: Scotland go to touch, knowing they need points...it's turned over...TRY FOR ENGLAND!
30 mins: Well this is gettng slightly ridiculous. Scotland lose the lineout and ENgland counter, with George and Slade releasing May and Daly out wide. Daly thinks he can release May but he passes to Graham and Scotland have the ball, only for Price to thrown another horrible pass to no one that England swarm on. They win the penalty turnover and Youngs goes quickly, passing left, and Slade slips the dge of the defence and is away. He has one defender to beat in Maitland, draws in the full-back, and delivers a beauty of a pass out the back of the hand to Jonny May who scores by the posts. Farrell converts and England are ahead of the clock. 31-0
35 mins: Look away now Jonny May. England get a turnover and try to attack, and Farrell sees Nowell in space out wide and goes for the cross-field kick. But it's charged down by the hooker Stuart McInally, and he regathers the ball to take charge at the line. Farrell is struggling to catch him, but here comes May and surely one of the fastest men in world rugby will stop him? Well, he misses the tackle as McInally shrugs him off and he scores to big cheers. Scotland are on the board and Russell adds the extras! 31-7
