From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Hadleigh Parkes' try inside just 70 seconds set the tone before fly-half Gareth Anscombe took over from the tee to add a further 20 points as the hosts hit the front and never looked back.
Ireland scored with the final play of the game to avoid being left scoreless but it was a day to forget for them in Cardiff.

2 mins: And just like Cardiff, we begin things here at Twickenham with a try! Scotland take the restart and Price fails to find touch with his clearance kick, allowing Vunipola to carry back emphatically. The ball is spread off first phase and Slade has plenty of space out wide right, and his pass to Jack Nowell sees the wing cut in onto his left, beat Maitland and Grigg with ease and score. Farrell converts. 7-0
5 mins: There's a worrying stoppage as Ben Moon is down and hurt, so much so that it sounds like he's either vomiting or wretching on the referee's microphone. Unsurprisingly, he's heading off the field and Ellis Genge is on in his place, and it looks like the prop hurt his torso somehow taking the ball into contact. Hopefully that's not a serious one.
7 mins: Curry, who has already had a good line break this afternoon, makes his first impact on the breakdown as he gets over McGuigan and wins the penalty. It's just inside the Scottish half but England kick for the corner - though that could also be due to the tricky weather conditions in trying to get into close range before going for goal.
8 mins: Referee Glenn Williams awards a penalty against Russell for offside, and we get an immediate answer. England want tries, and they go to the corner.
9 mins: It's smart from England. George throws quickly and low, finding Launchbury and England drive immediately. With no time to set the maul, Scotland's defence melts and Tom Curry bursts through for his secpond international try! Farrell converts from a tricky angle. 14-0
12 mins: Russell comes up with another error as he kicks the ball straight out, and England again try to outwit Scotland by going quickly...TRY FOR ENGLAND!
13 mins: We're in danger of this being a washout here, and that's nothing to do with the weather! England eventually kick away possession from the quick lineout and Scotland mop up through Russell before kicking to touch. From the lineout, Tuilagi clatters into Johnson, and the Scot does well to stop him. But the progress is made and allows Sinckler to charge through. He shows a little bit of immaturity by trying to run through Maitland rather than around him, but the damage is down and the ball is recycled for Joe Launchbury to throw a dummy and slide over to score. Farrell converts again, which is really impressive given the testing conditions. 21-0
