From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Two tries from England centurion Ben Youngs helped his side secure the bonus point they desperately needed, with Jamie George also scoring on his 50 cap for his country. Tom Curry’s try in the second half secured the crucial bonus point, with Henry Slade adding a fifth for good measure.
It means that England have one hand on the trophy, but will have to wait for the result in the final game of the championship to know if they have clinched the title for the first time since 2017, as if Ireland beat France by six points - so long as they score a try - or by seven points, they will beat England to top spot, while a bonus-point win would also be enough for the Irish.
51 mins: Wales 7-6 Scotland
Brown will continue but he is limping out there, and Wales turn down the long kick at goal to go for touch and build the pressure.
50 mins: Wales 7-6 Scotland
Try-scorer Carre is replaced by Wyn Jones, and he makes an immediate impact by winning a penalty against Fagerson that is sent to touch just outside the 10-metre line in Scottish territory. Wales go for the up and under and Brown concedes a stupid penalty by deliberately blocking Liam Williams, and he’s also injured his ankle in the process.
48 mins: Wales 7-6 Scotland
Hogg has a nervous moment when he mis-controls a high kick with his feet, but he regathers in time to give Scotland possession. They return fire with a high Price box-kick, and Halfpenny can’t take it. He manages to knock it backwards though to retain possession and Jonathan Davies kicks cross-field that Kinghorn knocks on for a Welsh put-in.
45 mins: Wales 7-6 Scotland
Scotland make good progress with the maul but when they go wide, Graham is stopped with a nice tackle from Patchell and it allows James Davies in to wrap up the ball, resulting in the maul being called and Wales securing the turnover.
44. mins: Wales 7-6 Scotland
Oh no. Wales win a penalty again at the breakdown, but replacement fly-half Hastings is wincing after tackling Watkin and he might have done his shoulder. He receives treatment and is in obvious pain, but he says he’s good to continue and Scotland breath a sigh of relief. Hogg takes the kick to touch, and it’s a beauty that helps them into the 22.
43 mins: Wales 7-6 Scotland
We’ve lost one 10 to injury, and now we’ve lost the other as Biggar is heading off holding his back, with maybe a muscle strain forcing him off. Rhys Patchell comes on in his place, and that’s another decisive setback there.
42 mins: Wales 7-6 Scotland
Halfpenny starts off the second period with a lovely take from Price’s box-kick and it gives Wales territory in the Scotland half, which the full-back improves when he gets his hands on the ball soon after. Wales come right and Watkin kicks to touch with a low grubber that puts the pressure on Brown’s throw, though he starts off the half with a strong throw to his man Cummings.
41 mins: Wales 7-6 Scotland
Wales kick off and the second half is under way!
HALF-TIME
The players return to the field and we’re ready for the second half.
HALF-TIME
We’ve already seen in this championship how the conditions can dictate a game (remember England’s slim victory over Scotland in atrocious weather back in February?) and to be quite frank neither side is playing the rugby required to succeed in this wind. Wales are quite happy to play without the ball, which is sensible only if you’re able to convert the chances that comes their way. They took one of those through Carre thanks to Faletau’s excellent pick-up and kick, but the others have gone begging thanks to the Scottish back row and their work at the breakdown. With just one point in it though, Scotland might not be too unhappy as although the wind is swirling, it looks like it will be at their back in the second half.
