From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

No fewer than five races have been scheduled for Thursday on top of two additional qualifying sessions as organisers attempt to squeeze in every race this week following the lengthy rain delays. After losing Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday to rain, action looks set to resume on Thursday with a bumper day of racing, ahead of Friday’s blue-riband Senior TT.
The action kicked off with superbike and superstock qualifying before Peter Hickman took victory in the two-lap supersport race two. The Birchall brothers, Ben and Tom, took their seventh Sidecar TT win with victory in race two, their 10th overall. When racing went back to the solos, there was still no stopping Hickman as he sealed a week hat-trick with superstock victory. Racing continues this evening with the two-lap lightweight race and one-lap TT Zero, with the day rounded out with a one-lap Senior qualifying. Follow the live action below.
What time does it start?
Thursday’s running at the TT begins at 11:50am.
How can I follow it?
Races are not shown live from the TT, so the best way to follow the action as it happens is with local radio or The Independent’s live blog throughout the event. Radio coverage is provided by Manx Radio over the fortnight, while live timing is available through the official www.iomttraces.com website.
Thursday’s schedule
11:50pm: Superbike/superstock qualifying (1 lap)
12:45pm: Monster Energy Supersport Race Two
1:50pm: Locate.IM Sidecar Race Two (2 laps)
2:55pm: RL360 Superstock Race (3 laps)
6:30pm: Bennetts Lightweight TT (2 laps)
7:20pm: TT Zero (1 lap)
8pm: Senior practice (1 lap
Sidecar race two
Lap 2: The Birchalls are through the Bungalow with a near-20 second lead, but it looks like they might miss out on the lap record once again. Molyneuz meanwhile comes through Ramsey with his hand up and they're trying to nurse home a sick machine over the mountain.
Sidecar race two
Lap 2: The Birchalls cross the line! It's 118.61mph but we just need Holden and Cain to confirm the result...
Sidecar race two
Ben and Tom Birchall win their seventh sidecar TT in a row and 10th overall by 20.511 seconds!
Confirmation from Honda that Ian Hutchinson will not compete in the superstock race up next. The 16-time TT winner is still suffering from a fall at the 11th milestone last week, and that supersport race this morning looks to have taken a bit out of him.
Sidecars are still coming off the mountain and crossing the line, so we may have a bit of a delay in getting the superstock race away here.
It's a 3:05pm start for the superstockers, so a brief five-minute delay.
Bikes 1-20 have just been called to the start line, so you'd still be surprised to see a 3:05pm start time.
RST Superstock race
So while most races this week have been fairly unpredictable, this one might just be a bit more conventional. Why? Well most riders have had just one lap on the superstockers this morning, but Peter Hickman ran his superstock bike - albeit with superbike parts added - in Monday's race and has two laps on this machine in race conditions.
Dean Harrison will likely provide the best competition once again along with Conor Cummins, and we're still waiting for Michael Dunlop to show his true self at the TT this year. Will the Tyco BMW finally come good?
