From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It was the ebullient Italian's 62nd career winner at the Royal meeting, after he had opened his account for 2019 on Raffle Prize in the Queen Mary Stakes.
Even though he has been one of the most sought-after jockeys in the world for the last 30 years, he revealed he approached trainer Sir Michael Stoute for the ride. Re-live the action below:
Raffle Prize wins!
1. Raffle Prize 18/1
2. Kimari 13/2
3. Final Song 6/1 f
4. Liberty Beach 16/1
It's very tight!
Wesley Ward almost had his first winner at Ascot this year but Kimari was just beaten to the line by Raffle Prize as Frankie Dettori lands his 61st Royal Ascot win.
Frankie Dettori normally hates the rain, but this ride was slightly different.
"Ascot is different. I saw Wesley's horse alonsside I thought if I beat he'll go crazy. I come here to win, not to lose. The rain is on top, it's riding Good to Soft, later this afternoon I expect it to be Soft."
Ickworth deemed a runner
Ickworth did not leave the starting stalls but it has been said that she refused to race and is thus deemed a runner.
British Horse Racing Authority: "Having reviewed the start the Stewards were satisfied that ICKWORTH (IRE) had refused to race and was deemed to be a runner."

Right, on with the second and it's likely to be the first we see of Aidan O'Brein in the winner's enclosure.
This is a fairly weak race compared to recent years. Aidan O’Brien has four wins from the last six in this race, so take your pick between Norway or Western Australia. Ryan Moore choosing Norway after finishing eighth in the Epsom Derby, a finish that does not quite reflect his performance.
Dashing Willoughby race a good second on his first race of the season then disappointed at Chester on Derby trials, has the potential to do better.

Oddschecker racing guru Teague Calvin: "Nate The Great at 12/1 is the best bet of the race.
"The three-year-old finished third behind Epsom Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck at Lingfield back in May, and the way Archie Watson’s colt picked up in the final stages that day suggests the step up to 1m 6f today will be his optimum distance."
Aidan O'Brein
Aidan O'Brein runs four of the 13 runners in Western Australia, Norway, Barbados and Harpo Max.
Of the former, O'Brien told attheraces.com: "We were delighted with his win at Navan last time. He always looked like a horse that would stay well and he confirmed that at Navan.
"Going a bit further at Ascot will be a help to him and there should be more improvement in him."
The horses are making their way down to the starting stalls that are placed right in front of the grandstand.
Pythion is playing up just a touch as we approach the start time, Nate The Great also being a touch difficult out there.
