From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Frankie Dettori proved yet again he is the king of Royal Ascot as he ruled the waves with a memorable double - highlighted by a masterful ride on Crystal Ocean to take the Prince Of Wales's Stakes.
It was the ebullient Italian's 62nd career winner at the Royal meeting, after he had opened his account for 2019 on Raffle Prize in the Queen Mary Stakes.
Even though he has been one of the most sought-after jockeys in the world for the last 30 years, he revealed he approached trainer Sir Michael Stoute for the ride. Re-live the action below:
Weather
Oh no, it is beginning to get a bit drizzly at Ascot. The forecast today suggests that the rain could well be hanging around on and off until about 5:00 pm.
The Royal Procession
The Royal assembly arrives at the bottom of the mile straight and the Queen is wearing light blue, pastel if you will.

Seniority runs in the Royal Hunt Cup at 5:00.
The William Haggas-trained five-year-old finished eighth in this race last year and does not come into the race this time in any better form.
2:30 Queen Mary Stakes
Right, on with the racing.
Final Song impressed in her winning debut in Ascot on soft ground and could repeat that if the going is similar.
Kimari is another interesting selection, trainer Wesley Ward has a good record in this race, winning two of the last four, and this horse should be considered on her British debut.
It’s a very large field and we’ve seen a lot of competitive races so there’s every chance that there is some good each-way value out there.

The lord of flat racing has just two runners in this race, Tango and Love Bracelet, and neither of them are expected to run away with the win...which now definitely means one will win.
Queen Mary Stakes
The Irish challenge is led by Willie McCreery's Ickworth, who followed up a debut win at Dundalk with an impressive Listed triumph at the Curragh.
"Ickworth is in good form. The more the ground dries the better, but there is to be rain on Tuesday night," said McCreery.
"I'm looking forward to it if we get good (ground) underfoot."
The rain is absolutely bucketing down at Ascot. Expect this ground to be very stiff.
