From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A dominant India beat Pakistan by 89 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-hit group match at Old Trafford to maintain their unbeaten World Cup record against their arch-rivals on Sunday.

Put into bat in a stop-start match, India posted a commanding 336-5 with Rohit Sharma (140) smashing his second century of the tournament.

Skipper Virat Kohli (77) and KL Rahul (57) also got fifty but Mohammad Amir's (3-47) tight death-overs spell denied India a 350-plus total in the sold out contest between the arch-rivals.

A century stand between Fakhar Zaman (62) and Babar Azam (48) kept alive Pakistan's hopes until they suffered a batting collapse and finished on 212-6 in 40 overs chasing a revised target of 302.

Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar claimed two wickets each for India who now have a 7-0 record against Pakistan in World Cup.

The covers are now off again. Pakistan's openers are back onto the pitch.

0.1 Pakistan 1-0 Imam-ul-Haq 1 Fakhar Zaman 0

The first ball of Pakistan's innings is finally bowled. Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivers it and Imam nudges it away for the first single.

1.0 Pakistan 2-0 Imam-ul-Haq 1 Fakhar Zaman 1

Just two runs off the first over. Kumar beats the outside edge of Imam's bat with the final delivery. Pakistan will know that DLS could come into play if we get more rain, so keeping up a steady run rate is important.

1.3 Pakistan 6-0 Imam-ul-Haq 1 Fakhar Zaman 5

Bumrah takes the ball at the other end for India and starts the over well enough. But a wide full toss with his third delivery is a gift for Fakhar, who drives it through cover for his first boundary.

3.0 Pakistan 12-0 Imam-ul-Haq 5 Fakhar Zaman 6

Bhuvneshwar keeps things tight until the final two balls of his second over. Imam flicks one off his pads through mid-wicket for four and then Fakhar gets a nice shot away for a single. A solid start from Pakistan's openers.

4.0 Pakistan 13-0 Imam-ul-Haq 7 Fakhar Zaman 5

Very good bowling from Bumrah, who generates incredible pace given his casual, unorthodox run-up. Pakistan get just one run from it, and Fakhar is beaten all ends up by the penultimate delivery, which hits the seam and moves away from his bat.

4.4 Pakistan 13-0 Imam-ul-Haq 7 Fakhar Zaman 5

Bhuvneshwar is getting plenty of movement on the ball. He beats the outside edge of Imam three times, getting close to the perfect line and length. He's just pulled up with what appears to be a tight hamstring, though, and won't be able to complete the over. If it's anything serious, this could be a big blow for India.

4.5 Pakistan 13-1

WICKET! Imam (7) b Shankar lbw

What a start! Vijay Shankar is called on to complete the over that Bhuvneshwar was unable to finish and immediately crashes one into the pads of Imam. He chooses not to review and Pakistan lose an early wicket.

5.0 Pakistan 14-1 Babar Azam 1 Fakhar Zaman 5

Shankar finds the inside edge of No.3 Babar Azam with his second ball, but Pakistan sneak a quick single from it. They need a big partnership now.
