It will take time for cricket community to accept David Warner and Steve Smith back, says England's Eoin Morgan

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. England's faltering World Cup campaign veered further off track as old rivals Australia booked their place in the semi-finals with a 64-run victory at Lord's.

After misadventures against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, England ran aground when chasing for the third time in the tournament, dismissed for an error-strewn 221.

With India and New Zealand still to play, there is now minimal leeway if the world's number one side are to reach the semi-finals of their own competition.

18.0 - England 79-4, B Stokes 26, J Buttler 11, M Starc 2-27 (5)

There's a sense of purpose about these two, pushing the Australian fielders for every run, looking to turn singles into twos and start to put a modicum of pressure back on Aaron Finch's side.

Seven from the over.

Pat Cummins is back for a rumble.

19.0 - England 83-4, B Stokes 30, J Buttler 11, P Cummins 0-12 (4)

Wallop! Down the track, back of the length, crunched to the midwicket boundary. Stokes uses his feet and Cummins responds by dragging his length back, too much in the end and putting it in perfect position for the pull.

Another bowling change, and a first sighting of Marcus Stoinis with the ball today.

19.3 - England 88-4, B Stokes 34, J Buttler 12, Marcus Stoinis 0-5 (0.3)

Down the pitch, a meaty heave over mid-on, one bounce and four more to Ben Stokes' name.

Smart batting from Stokes, trying to prevent Stoinis from settling in.

20.0 - England 91-4, B Stokes 35, J Buttler 14, M Stoinis 0-8 (1)

A clipped couple from Buttler closes Stoinis' first. Eight from it.

Ben Burrows has fired in another update from a nervy Lord's:

These two have certainly showed a purpose hitherto not seen in England's reply but the task at hand remains a daunting one. There's plenty of batting left to do and you feel these two will have to do the bulk of it if England are to somehow get themselves out of this. Australia will just be thinking wickets. Get one and it could be the game.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 16:12

21.0 - England 93-4, B Stokes 36, J Buttler 15, P Cummins 0-14 (5)

You just wonder if Aaron Finch could perhaps have continued with Nathan Lyon, or perhaps gone to Glenn Maxwell, at this juncture. The ball is turning and bouncing, and neither batsman looked particularly comfortable, and with so many runs still to be scored, and so much time yet to play, neither Stokes nor Buttler could afford to play loosely. Stokes looks very content against pace and you'd imagine the turn away would challenge him further.

Cummins is keeping things very tight, but as Ben suggested, one wicket might open things up for Australia.

REVIEW! A speculative one. Jos Buttler is way down the pitch, and it looks like it might have struck him outside the line of off stump. Marcus Stoinis was very interested.

Given not out, and it's hard to see this being overturned. No bat, but it looks very, very high.
