After misadventures against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, England ran aground when chasing for the third time in the tournament, dismissed for an error-strewn 221.
With India and New Zealand still to play, there is now minimal leeway if the world's number one side are to reach the semi-finals of their own competition.

A mistimed reverse sweep from Stokes finds slip and that is the only moment of attacking adventure from the batsmen in Lyon's first over.
Jason Behrendorff has swapped ends. Aaron Finch is perhaps keen to get as many of the left-armer's overs in while the going is good for Australia for fear of England targeting him later.

Close! A leading edge falls just shy of a diving Warner at short extra-cover!
The ball stops slightly in the surface and flies into the edge of Stokes' bat, turning to leg to try and work one, but even Warner isn't quick enough to get to the ball, collecting on the bounce diving forward.
OUT! LOOSE, INCREDIBLY LOOSE FROM BAIRSTOW AND HE'S GONE!
What's the thinking here, Jonny? An innocuous short ball from Behrendorff rises nicely into the hitting arc and you think Bairstow is going to dispatch this to the square leg boundary, but he instead seems to reconsider the shot mid-stroke, a half-hearted upwards pull taking the top half of the bat and sending the ball up rather than down.
It's a short boundary but nowhere near short enough and it into the sizeable hands of Pat Cummins that the ball again settles, running in from deep midwicket to claim in relative comfort. Bairstow falls, drinks are taken, England in the mire.

Well well well.
This has been poor from England. Australia have bowled well but both Morgan and Bairstow have been guilty of getting themselves out.
Jos Buttler to the crease. He's played a lone hand against Australia in the past, and something similar to that extraordinary knock at Old Trafford last year might be required.

A gorgeous cover drive from Jos Buttler to send Starc's first ball back to the fence.

Buttler looks for something similar from the last ball of the over and gets a thick-ish outside edge, Jason Behrendorff saving a couple with an athletic slide round from third man, lifting his feet to keep them above the boundary triangles and ensure it is only two.
17.0 - England 72-4, B Stokes 20, J Buttler 10, N Lyon 0-14 (3)
Through him! Turn. Real turn. Buttler is just looking to prod this into the off side but is beaten by sharp spin from a length as Lyon tosses up a ripping off-break that somehow beats bat, pad, glove and stump, and indeed a gasping Alex Carey behind the stumps.
Something there for Lyon. Aaron Finch might consider going to Glenn Maxwell for an over or two.
A good pick-up from Michael Clarke on the TV coverage - he's spotted Aaron Finch urging Pat Cummins to go a touch finer at fine leg before the Morgan dismissal, both to encourage Morgan to try and find the gap between square leg and Cummins, and to be in position for the catch that came the ball after.
