From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Mercedez Benz Superdome stages the 34th edition of WrestleMania, which sees a number of fascinating matches booked and the potential second departure of Brock Lesnar, plus a number of rumoured returns including that of the supposedly retired Undertaker.
But one of the biggest matches of the night could well be that of AJ Styles against Shinsuke Nakamura as the two fan-favourites go up against each other for the WWE Championship, while both women’s titles will be on the line as Charlotte Flair takes on Asuka for the Smackdown Championship and Alexa Bliss defends against Nia Jax for the Raw version.
But it’s the professional debut of Ronda Rousey – who teams up with Kurt Angle to face Triple H and Stephanie McMahon – that could well be the highlight as the former UFC champion makes her bow in the WWE.

John Cena vs The Undertaker
A furious Undertaker immediately dominates Cena with a big boot to the chest and a flurry of punches. He runs across the ring, ducks a clothesline and smashes into Cena, before going Old School!
John Cena vs The Undertaker
Undertaker is rolling out all of the classics early on, Snakeseyes, a boot to the head, leg drop. He calls for the Chokeslam, but Cena counters and puts Taker down with a Sit-Down Powerbomb. He calls for the Five-Knuckle Shuffle a bit of 'You Can't See Me', but Undertaker sits up and chokeslsams Cena! He calls for the end...TOMBSTONE!
Undertaker pins Cena...1...2...3!
THE UNDERTAKER BEATS JOHN CENA IN UNDER FIVE MINUTES!
John Cena vs The Undertaker
What did we just see? Was it an epic Undertaker return, rolling over John Cena to prove he can still do it when it matters? Or was it all a bit of a waste of time?
For me, the way The Undertaker went out last year ws special, and that entire segment - all four minutes of the match - has spoiled it.
Now it's time for a real fight. The return of Daniel Bryan promo hits, which means it's one of our big ones...Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens fight for their jobs against Shane McMahon and Bryan.
Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
'Money' McMahon comes out first to a warm reception, but it's nothing compared to the one that Bryan gets as he returns to the ring, more than two years after announcing his injury-enforced retirement from the WWE. Needless to say, the YES movement is back!
Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Owens and Zayn attack Bryan and McMahon from behind! The match hasn't even started and they're destroying the Smackdown General Manager and Commissioner!
Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Bryan gets taken out with a Hulluva Kick, before Owens powerbombs him into the ring apron once again. He looks down and out and medics rush to his attendance, with Bryan holding his injured neck and given his previous injuries, there's a genuine fear on his condition.
But McMahon is going to fight on, and in what is now a handicap match, the bell rings and Mcmahon immediately knocks Zayn off the apron before taking the fight to Owens.
Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
The numbers game soon catches up with McMahon, and Owens starts to stomp away on his stomach where he had that nasty injury just two months ago that left him in hospital. Owens makes the tag and Zayn continues the assault.
Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
It's one way traffic in there as Owens and Zayn rotate the tag and continue to keep McMahon grounded, with numerous two-count pins forcing McMahon to exert his energy through his damaged stomach muscles time and time again. McMahon tries to fight back, taking Owens out with two elbows and a right hand, but Zayn flattens McMahon and tries to finish it with a thunderbomb. Another pin, another two-count, but the prospect of Owens and Zayn winning this match and earning their jobs back looks inevitable right now.
