From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England are back in the game that no one wants to be involved in as they take on Belgium for the accolade of finishing third at the World Cup, which should they win would be their best finish at the tournament since winning it in 1966.
It will be the second time the two teams have played after meeting in the final round of group stage fixtures, where Belgium ran out 1-0 winners to secure top spot in Group G.
Adnan Januzaj scored the only goal of the game there – that may actually have cost Belgium a World Cup final spot given their tougher route – but he doesn't get a second chance to shine as Belgium named their strongest team possible in St Petersburg, with England in contract making numerous changes..

Odds
Belgium: 6/5
England: 12/5
Draw: 14/5
16 mins: Slightly better signs for England going forward, but still look wide open to the counter attack from Belgium. Young talent Youri Tielemans of Monaco has made a good start for Belgium
19 mins: Talking of young talent, Ruben Loftus-Cheek goes on a jinking run, gets to the byline but his pull back is intercepted. England corner.
24 mins: Harry Kane should score! A brilliant lay-off from Sterling plays in Kane who puts his laces through it and the ball flies off target. Disappointing from the man in the driving seat for the Golden Boot
28 mins: A more even feel to this one as we approach the half hour mark, after Belgium had much of the better openings early on as well as the goal. England dying out for a player to connect that midfield and the forwards. Jack Wilshere must be sat at home wondering what might have been if he had showcased his undeniable talent
33 mins: Belgium having the majority of possession, although for now, England are getting a lot closer to their opponents than in the early stages. Hazard eventually gets a shot away and John Stones gets out to block it, not for the first time this afternoon.
Belgium corner, De Bruyne with a training ground move to Tielemans with a mis-hit effort which falls to Alderweireld who cant get his overhead kick on target. England switched off there.
36 mins: Nacer Chadli down with a hamstring injury. Looks like it could be game over for him.
39 mins: Chadli replaced by Vermaelen on. Belgium have a corner but it's easily cleared and they break forward but the final ball goes missing again
43 mins: If England are to get something out of this one, they could do with some impact from the bench in the second half. Against world class opposition in Belgium, it's clear England are lacking a player like De Bruyne
HALF TIME: Belgium 1-0 England
Thomas Meunier's early goal separates the two sides on the scoreline at the break, but there's a huge crater between the overall quality of the two sides too. In midfield in particular England have struggled to contain Kevin De Bruyne. Belgium have had one blow this half with Nacer Chadli going off with a hamstring injury.
