Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England are back in the game that no one wants to be involved in as they take on Belgium for the accolade of finishing third at the World Cup, which should they win would be their best finish at the tournament since winning it in 1966.
It will be the second time the two teams have played after meeting in the final round of group stage fixtures, where Belgium ran out 1-0 winners to secure top spot in Group G.
Adnan Januzaj scored the only goal of the game there – that may actually have cost Belgium a World Cup final spot given their tougher route – but he doesn't get a second chance to shine as Belgium named their strongest team possible in St Petersburg, with England in contract making numerous changes..

Prediction
Who cares? Really, who actually remembers who was in the last third-place play-off, let alone who won it? No one wants to play in it and even fewer want to watch it. But, 2-0 Belgium.
Odds
Belgium: 6/5
England: 12/5
Draw: 14/5
England sing God Save The Queen for the final time in Russia. She's into the football spirit too with a fine performance to evade a moving cone in the shape of Donald Trump yesterday...but that's enough of the politics, back to the football to bring the nation together one last time...
KICK OFF: Belgium get us underway, they line-up in yellow with England in red
3 mins: A fairly even start to this one as both teams get a feel of the ball. The biggest talking point so far: Danny Rose's holey socks...
Ruben Loftus-Cheek doing his best to get forward early on with Dier and Delph holding in midfield
5 mins: GOAL! Belgium 1-0 England (Thomas Meunier)
Not sure about this midfield early on. Acres of space for the one man you don't want to give any breathing space to: Kevin De Bruyne. He plays it out wide to Chadli who beats his man and slides a ball into Meunier who shins it into the net.
9 mins: Tielemans fouls Kane giving England a set piece opportunity. Trippier to take once again. Left of the area, and midway into Belgium's half
10 mins: Belgium and Jan Vertonghen get away with one. Lack of communication leaves the Spurs defender thinking he's under pressure and he almost scores an own goal. Eventually makes a minimal connection and Courtois can collect
I would imagine you could've got decent odds on Thomas Meunier as first goalscorer with the array of attacking talents on show here
