From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Lions came close to adding to the 1-0 advantage given to them by Wallace's early goal on a number of occasions in the second half but failed to beat Dons goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for a second time.
Millwall join Watford and Brighton in Monday night's quarter-final draw.

Locadia clearly enjoys the backing of the Brighton fans. He won't have scored an easier goal in his career than today's, though.
Derby get us back underway. They've made two changes: Ashley Cole has replaced Malone and Jack Marriott is on for Holmes.
Brighton 2-0 Derby
50 minutes
Derby look a little more lively since the changes. A ball out to the right is played back across the box and Wilson connects with a powerful half volley. It's struck well and looks on its way in, but Duffy is in there to block.
Brighton 2-0 Derby
56 minutes
The tempo of the game is still far too slow from Derby's perspective. Brighton are knocking the ball around comfortably when in possession and look compact without the ball.
Brighton 2-0 Derby
61 minutes
Duffy steps up from defence to intercept a pass and drives forward. He keeps going, until he's in Derby's box, but he eventually loses the ball and Derby clear. That's the most excitement we've had in about ten minutes.
Brighton 2-0 Derby
62 minutes
Marriott finds himself with space in the box, turns and gets a shot off, but again it's blocked. Derby's attacks have been sporadic and not incisive enough. Brighton don't appear to be interested in getting a third goal, though, so the away side are not out of this yet.
Brighton 2-0 Derby
65 minutes
Derby appear to be gathering some momentum now. For the first time, they're stretching Brighton's defence. They win a corner, which is only half cleared. Bryson has a go from outside the box but doesn't catch his shot properly and it's easily blocked.
Brighton 2-0 Derby
67 minutes
Wilson has the chance to put a ball into the box from a free kick, but his cross is too long and misses everyone.
Brighton 2-0 Derby
71 minutes
Knockaert nearly has his second. Locadia does well on the right to set the Frenchman free, and he drives towards the Derby box. His curling shot looks on its way into the far corner, but Roos gets fingertips on it to divert it away.
