Premier League: All the transfer rumours as deadline day approaches

Chelsea have completed the signing of Enzo Fernandez for £106m, in what is a British transfer record. The Blues met Benfica’s release clause for the Argentina midfielder shortly before Tuesday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

A statement from the Portuguese side confirmed the deal past midnight after Chelsea rushed to complete the transfer.

It came after Manchester United signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season. The Austria international adds to United’s midfield options after Christian Eriksen was ruled out for three months with an ankle injury.

Brighton held on to midfielder Moises Caicedo, but Arsenal turned their attention to another target and signed Jorginho from Premier League rivals Chelsea in a £13m deal.

Elsewhere, Tottenham confirmed the signing of right back Pedro Porro, with Matt Doherty joining Atletico Madrid on a free transfer after his contract with Spurs was terminated by mutual agreement.

Palace monitoring Gallagher situation

Crystal Palace are monitoring Conor Gallagher’s situation at Chelsea with a view to making a late move for the admired midfielder.

Palace have long been interested in bringing the 22-year-old back to Selhurst Park after a fine spell at the club last season where he won the club’s end-of-season Player of the Year award.

There was a rejected £45million move to Everton yesterday and Chelsea have been reluctant to accept any offers from European qualification rival Newcastle.

That leaves Palace in the driving seat for a late deadline day move but it seems increasing unlikely that Gallagher will leave the club given Chelsea are on the verge of letting Jorginho leave.

Palace are also interested in Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Atletico Madrid chase deadline day deal for Tottenham wing-back Matt Doherty

Atletico Madrid are considering a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur‘s Matt Doherty, with Diego Simeone having instructed the hierarchy to bring in a right-back this window.

The Spanish club have already failed in two bids for Olympique Marseille’s Jonathan Clauss, but there is a good relationship with Spurs after recent moves and the Irish international has been broached as an option. The 31-year-old has been in and out of Antonio Conte‘s side this season but is valued by the Italian, and there is a feeling his strengths could fit what Simeone wants.

Talks are underway after Atletico raised the prospect of a move and Doherty is in Madrid to discuss the move. There is not expected to be any option or obligation for the loan to become permanent.
