Maurizio Sarri on Kepa Arrizabalaga: he has 'served his time'

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chelsea were 2-1 winners at Craven Cottage in a game where all the goals came in the first half.

Gonzalo Higuain gave the visitors a 20th minute lead, which was cancelled out eight minutes later by Calum Chambers.

However, Jorginho’s 31st minute goal won it for the visitors – but there was late drama as Kepa Arrizabalaga saved an Aleksandar Mitrovic header, before Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon saw a late effort disallowed.

The win takes Maurizio Sarri’s side to within two points of the top four.

A win with their game in hand, against Brighton, will lift them above fourth placed Man United.

6 min: Fulham 0-0 Chelsea

Big chance for Gonzalo Higuain, but the Argentine can only glance a header wide from a cross from the right.

Fulham need to wake up and quickly.

8 min: Fulham 0-0 Chelsea

A decent start in an attacking sense from both sides so far.

This time it is Fulham who create the chance, with Calum Chambers' break resulting in a shot for Cairney before Bryan fires the rebound just wide from distance.

Hazard is creating so much space for his teammates and the hosts look very open when defending.

Kante and Willian have been the ones who have pulled the trigger so far, but Fulham have managed to get bodies back to block.

Pressure tells a thousand tales.

A lot of nearly moments for Gonzalo Higuain so far.

His teammates have found space but the rub of the green hasn't quite gone the Argentine's way with shots being blocked and balls over the top just being too long.

Huge amount of fortune for Chelsea there.

Ryan Babel assumes it is a regulation catch from McDonald's cross for Kepa, but the Spaniard ends up spilling it.

It would have been a tap in for the Dutchman, but he is unaware of the situation and the goalkeeper grabs it in the nick of time.

GOAL! Fulham 0-1 Chelsea (Higuain 20)

Easy as you like.

There's a two-on-one situation on the Chelsea right and Azpilicueta takes advantage of that to square to the Argentine, who makes no mistake to finish past Rico at the near post for his third goal for the Blues.

It's been a tough few minutes for Fulham, and it has just got worse with Chambers' going into the book for a tug back on Willian

Kishan Vaghela3 March 2019 14:28

Cool as you like.

GOAL! Fulham 1-1 Chelsea (Chambers 28')

That's not something to be proud of if you're a Chelsea defender.

The short corner is swung in and the Arsenal loanee is all alone at the back stick, and he does well to control his volley and slam it past Kepa, who had made a fine save from a Mitrovic volley which forced the corner.

Lifeline for Scott Parker and his side.
