Maurizio Sarri on Kepa Arrizabalaga: he has 'served his time'

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Chelsea were 2-1 winners at Craven Cottage in a game where all the goals came in the first half.

Gonzalo Higuain gave the visitors a 20th minute lead, which was cancelled out eight minutes later by Calum Chambers.

However, Jorginho’s 31st minute goal won it for the visitors – but there was late drama as Kepa Arrizabalaga saved an Aleksandar Mitrovic header, before Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon saw a late effort disallowed.

The win takes Maurizio Sarri’s side to within two points of the top four.

A win with their game in hand, against Brighton, will lift them above fourth placed Man United.

85 min: Watford 1-1 Leicester City

Loud jeers from the home fans again as a couple of free kicks are given in favour of the hosts.

Those sarcastic cheers could have been cries of anguish though had Leicester taken advantage of a good breakaway situation, but Ihenacho's pass to Maddison is poor.

89 min: Watford 1-1 Leicester City

It's the hosts long-ball tactic against Leicester's counterattack policy at the moment as we edge towards injury time.

Is there a late winner here?

90 min: Watford 1-1 Leicester City

That might have been the chance for one!

But Leicester captain Wes Morgan heads wide after rising to meet Maddison's left-foot cross.

He obviously looks gutted as four minutes are added on.

GOAL! Watford 2-1 Leicester City (Gray 90+2)

Watford look to have nicked this, and Deeney's contribution is telling once again.

Kasper Schmeichel's clearance comes straight back Leicester's way and Deeney's clipped pass catches Wes Morgan out and is perfect for the onrushing Gray, who takes a touch with his right before firing home with his left.

Full Time: Watford 2-1 Leicester City

A grandstand finish at Vicarage Road as Andre Gray consigns Brendan Rodgers to yet another defeat in his first game in charge of an English club.

The former Burnley man scored in injury time and was well assisted by Troy Deeney, who opened the scoring five minutes in.

Jamie Vardy equalised 15 minutes from time but then went off with an injury three minutes later.

Leicester enjoyed a lot of possession and will be disappointed that they have come away with nothing, especially after Foster's save from Maddison right at the death, but Watford have maintained the pace with Wolves with the dramatic win here.

Usually I would have a bit of a lie down after thrilling last-minute drama like that, but the fixtures come thick and fast today as Fulham face Chelsea at Craven Cottage.

The big news so far from west London is the return of Kepa to the starting XI a week after the debacle in the Caraboa Cup final, and the Spaniard is one of five changes in Maurizio Sarri's lineup.

Kick off just five minutes away.

Here come the teams across the pitch at Craven Cottage, and there is a huge afternoon ahead for Scott Parker's whose problems continue to mount.

But can he get one over the hosts' rivals as he makes one change from Wednesday as Ryan Sessegnon returns?

Kishan Vaghela3 March 2019 14:03

He's back. Kepa's back.

1 min: Fulham 0-0 Chelsea

Ryan Babel gets us underway. Chelsea seem to have turned a corner recently, so can they continue those type of performances here?

Kishan Vaghela3 March 2019 14:05

4 min: Fulham 0-0 Chelsea

All Chelsea in the opening minutes here, with the visitors looking to probe down the wings, with Willian and Barkley already drawing fouls from the Fulham defence.
