From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In that streak, the team has 33 goals and has not conceded a goal in the last six games — a first under Guardiola.
Wolverhampton Wanderers avoided becoming the latest Premier League casualty only by scoring in the third minute of injury time to salvage a 2-2 draw at third-tier Shrewsbury.
Wolves, who knocked out Liverpool in the third round, rested key players for the game despite not being in genuine danger of relegation in its first season back in the Premier League.
In an all-Premier League matchup, Watford won 2-0 at Newcastle, which hasn't progressed beyond the fourth round since 2006. Brighton was taken to a replay by second-tier West Bromwich Albion after a 0-0 draw.
And after Everton were stunned by Millwall, West Ham were knocked out by AFC Wimbledon. Re-live the action:

22 min: Millwall 0-0 Everton
Seamus Coleman is getting a lot of joy down the right-hand side, but is not this time quite able to pick out a teammate and the hosts clear.
27 min: Millwall 0-0 Everton
Very little for Millwall in an attacking sense so far and the crowd haven't half noticed it.
A little problem here for Yerry Mina though after chasing a ball down under the challenge of Lee Gregory.
Kurt Zouma due to come on.
32 min: Millwall 0-0 Everton
Little to talk about in terms of goal chances but Richarlison has been in the wars.
He comes off worse after a clash with Hutchinson, before being fouled for another Everton free-kick.
Nothing comes of it though.
38 min: Millwall 0-0 Everton
Another scrappy affair being played out here at The Den. Everton struggling to regain that early momentum and Millwall just haven't got going really.
Jordan Archer tries to liven it up with a sliced clearance, but Gylfi Sigurdsson struggles to control the high ball and Millwall clear.
42 min: Millwall 0-0 Everton
The pitch is starting to give way in places and players are starting to lose their footing, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has had just eight touches so far, getting a huge ironic cheer from the home fans for a five-metre slide.
GOAL! Millwall 0-1 Everton (Richarlison 43')
Jordan Archer's day goes from bad to worse. Richarlison receives the ball from Andre Gomes and smashes a shot from about 25 yards.
The shot takes a deflection of Hutchinson but Archer still makes a hash of it and allows the ball to bounce under him.
GOAL! Millwall 1-1 Everton (Gregory 45+2)
They can't hold out until half time though. A free-kick is floated in and Jake Cooper heads on to Lee Gregory. He has the beating of Digne and loops a header past Pickford into the far corner.
Half-time: Millwall 1-1 Everton
That game came alive in the last five minutes of the half.
Richarlison scored from long-range courtesy of some poor goalkeeping from Jordan Archer, but the last play of the half saw Millwall equalise thanks to Lee Gregory's header .
This has the billing for an intriguing second-half FA Cup clash.
