From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jose Mourinho will hope to put an end to the difficult spell that Manchester United find themselves in this season as they make the short trip to Burnley in this afternoon’s Premier League encounter.
United come into the tie off the back of consecutive defeats against Brighton and Tottenham, which leaves Mourinho’s side nine points off the pace ahead of this encounter. There also remains discontent between the United manager and the club’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, with a planned flyover organised by fans set to appear this afternoon protesting against the latter.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, United have lost Phil Jones to injury and are not yet able to select Marcos Rojo, leaving Mourinho short on defensive options, while Burnley are likely to be without Johann Berg Gudmundsson due to a hamstring injury, with teenager Dwight McNeil likely to deputise in his place.

What time does it start?
Burnley vs Manchester United kicks off at 4.00pm.
Where can I watch it?
The match will not be shown live on TV in the UK, but follow the latest action here with The Independent.
28 mins: Meanwhile, at Watford as I say this Jose Holebas is smashing water bottles at full pelt.
I don't actually know why but he's a bit of a loose cannon.
As we reported just before kick off at Turf Moor a plane flew above the stadium questioning Ed Woodward's running of the club and lack of investment in transfers this summer.
For more on this story read Jack De Menezes piece here:
32 mins: Neither Spurs or Watford have truly troubled the other yet but Moura continues to look like Spurs' brightest spark after his impressive brace last Monday against Manchester United.
35 mins: UNITED CHANCE!
Big chance for the Red Devils to double their lead as they win the ball back and break at pace.
Romelu Lukaku has the ball and has Sanchez one side of him and Lingard on the other.
The Belgian's pass wasn't the best but Sanchez works wonders with it and slips it back into Lukaku's path but he is denied by the big frame of Joe hart.
35 mins: TOTTENHAM CHANCE!
Trippier sends in a magical ball to the back post where both Dele Alli and Harry Kane are stood and the former somehow manages to guide the ball wide.
He'll be relieved to look up and see the offside flag.
Not a clue how he's missed.
38 mins: Apart from one good spell of possession Burnley's intensity has been truly lacking and United have been comfortable for the majority of this first half.
Crisis, what crisis?
41 mins: Wild wild effort from Ben Davies as the corner falls to him on the edge of the box and the ball sails into the stand.
43 mins: SPURS CHANCE!
Davinson heads the ball down to the waiting Dele All who flicks the ball over his own head (reminiscent of his goal against Crystal Palace), and tries the shot.
This time though, his effort goes over the bar.
GOAL! Burnley 0-2 Manchester United (Lukaku, 43)
United in cruise control and it's the Belgian striker again who is the first to react.
Lingard quickly shifts his feet on the edge of the box and hits a shot which is well blocked but following a couple more ricochets, the ball falls to Lukaku who just smashes it into the middle of the goal without too much trouble.
