Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jose Mourinho will hope to put an end to the difficult spell that Manchester United find themselves in this season as they make the short trip to Burnley in this afternoon’s Premier League encounter.
United come into the tie off the back of consecutive defeats against Brighton and Tottenham, which leaves Mourinho’s side nine points off the pace ahead of this encounter. There also remains discontent between the United manager and the club’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, with a planned flyover organised by fans set to appear this afternoon protesting against the latter.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, United have lost Phil Jones to injury and are not yet able to select Marcos Rojo, leaving Mourinho short on defensive options, while Burnley are likely to be without Johann Berg Gudmundsson due to a hamstring injury, with teenager Dwight McNeil likely to deputise in his place.

What time does it start?
Burnley vs Manchester United kicks off at 4.00pm.
Where can I watch it?
The match will not be shown live on TV in the UK, but follow the latest action here with The Independent.
8 mins: Valencia smashes in a low cross across the box and it falls to the feet of Lingard whose deft touch sees the ball going towards goal and Hart scrambles back to see it out for a corner.
11 mins: Spurs also trying to open up Watford and Dele All attempts an unchallenged header from the edge of the area trying to dink it over the Watford stopper but it goes just over the bar and out.
United look very fresh at Turf Moor while Burnley haven't settled at all yet.
Do remember that the Clarets just crashed out of Europe at the final hurdle on Thursday evening as they were unable to overcome the 3-1 deficit held away from Olympiakos, drawing 1-1 at home in the return leg.
Tired minds, maybe?
16 mins: Trippier's ball in is cleared easily though and Watford will be more or less happy with their start so far.
17 mins: WATFORD CHANCE!
Janmaat finds a bit of space on the right hand side and he floats a good ball into the mixer where Deeney rises highest but his header sails over the bar.
Watford now have a corner.
Sanchez is booked after felling Bardsley near the box. Free kick in a dangerous area for Burnley.
Both games are in the same kind of lull with each opposition trying to get the measure of the other.
A lot of attacking moves are falling short at the final pass.
Defences on top.
24 mins: United have not taken advantage of their positive early start and Burnley have finally started knocking the ball around with some confidence and are causing the Reds (or pinks) a few more problems.
26 mins: Burnley 0-1 Manchester United (Lukaku, 26)
As I say this, Alexis Sanchez finds some space on the left hand side of the box and dinks in a wonderful ball which finds Lukaku unmarked at the back post.
1-0 to the Reds and I guess it's deserved on the balance of play.
