Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Jose Mourinho will hope to put an end to the difficult spell that Manchester United find themselves in this season as they make the short trip to Burnley in this afternoon’s Premier League encounter.

United come into the tie off the back of consecutive defeats against Brighton and Tottenham, which leaves Mourinho’s side nine points off the pace ahead of this encounter. There also remains discontent between the United manager and the club’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, with a planned flyover organised by fans set to appear this afternoon protesting against the latter.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, United have lost Phil Jones to injury and are not yet able to select Marcos Rojo, leaving Mourinho short on defensive options, while Burnley are likely to be without Johann Berg Gudmundsson due to a hamstring injury, with teenager Dwight McNeil likely to deputise in his place.

We're just over ten minutes away from kick off at Turf Moor and at Vicarage Road.

What's your predictions for this afternoon's results?

Nathan Jacobs2 September 2018 15:49

United fans weren't a happy bunch during the transfer window and that has continued on into their difficult start in the Premier League.

This has now just flown over Turf Moor pre-kick off.

Meanwhile, at Vicarage Road where there's a lot more positivity Watford have a great chance to create more history...

KICK OFF and were underway in both 4PMs.

Nathan Jacobs2 September 2018 16:01

United are on the front foot early on and good work from Lukaku sets up Lingard who's shot looks like it's gone in but it hits the stantion and ripples the net from behind.

4 mins: Positive start at Vicarage Road from both sides too with Tottenham doing most of the running.

Sun kissed pitch and two teams with full confidence. Should be a good game.

Nathan Jacobs2 September 2018 16:05

United are donning their brand new pink away kit and the fans are making themselves heard loud and clear in their support for Mourinho.

It's been a really bright start, not just from the kits.
