Kylian Mbappe leaves France game covered in blood as fans shower forward with whistles

France and the Netherlands played out a 0-0 draw in their second Group D game of Euro 2024, a result that all but guaranteed both teams a place in the last 16.

Antoine Griezmann, captaining the side with Kylian Mbappe on the bench after breaking his nose against Austria, had an excellent chance in each half but twice stumbled over the ball.

Both sets of fans had cause to celebrate - the Dutch when Xavi Simons found the net in the second half and the French when the effort was ruled out for offside - and, despite both sides pushing for a winner, they had to be content with a point each.

France and the Netherlands are level on four points at the top of the group standings, with Austria on three, while Poland have no points and cannot advance. France face Poland in their final group game with the Dutch taking on Austria.

‘France will be dangerous without Mbappe'

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman says France will be difficult to beat regardless of whether star striker Kylian Mbappe starts or not.

"Deschamps will know if Mbappe will play or not, we will have to wait and see," he said, "France are such a strong team that even if Mbappe is not playing the substitute will play well as well.

"All I can focus on is our team and to prepare ourselves the best we can. Not everything depends on if Mbappe is there or not."

Eberechi Eze insists England are not panicking despite drab Denmark draw

Eberechi Eze insists England will keep calm and carry on at Euro 2024 after the team were jeered off the pitch following Thursday’s draw with Denmark.

Gareth Southgate’s side missed the chance to seal top spot in Group C with a game to spare as they laboured to a 1-1 draw in Frankfurt.

Harry Kane opened the scoring only for Morten Hjulmand to level before Denmark then controlled much of the contest, with a large number of England fans booing at full-time.

Eze came off the bench to make his tournament debut as Southgate attempted to inject a freshness into his team in the second half.

The same Mykhailo Mudryk, but different? Chelsea winger adapts to inspire Ukraine

Mykhailo Mudryk sprung off the turf, rising through the drizzle to meet the ball with the badge on his jersey, before guiding it deftly to the grass below. Then, he turned, driving forward into the ever-widening channel in front of him. Slovakia’s goal grew bigger and bigger before him, as he drew closer and closer. But it would never be sizeable enough to contain his shot. It was an ugly finish in all honesty, slashed high, wide and hopeless.

It was a moment to sum up his brief Euro 2024 campaign up to that point, but more than that, it was an extension of a dispiriting first 18 months at Chelsea. The Ukrainian has been praised by fans of the club for his application, an admirable quality, but so far he has provided lots of endeavour and very little product for the Blues.

And on Friday, clad from neck to ankle in yellow rather than blue, this was a different Mudryk, yet the same Mudryk.

How will France cope without Kylian Mbappe?

Kylian Mbappe may miss at least one match at Euro 2024 for France following a broken nose in their group stage opener, but the new Real Madrid centre-forward could yet miss more, depending on the severity of his injury.

Manager Didier Deschamps has said the striker won’t have surgery until after the tournament and there are already plans in place for Mbappe to wear a mask, but until he returns the boss needs alternative options.

Fortunately for France, they have one of the most stacked squads at the Euros and particularly in the wide areas - here are four potential solutions to an absent Mbappe for Les Bleues.

Italy legend Roberto Baggio robbed at gunpoint while watching Euro 2024

Italy legend Roberto Baggio has been robbed at gunpoint and hospitalised while watching his country’s Euro 2024 clash against Spain at home.

At least five armed robbers burst into Baggio’s villa in Altavilla Vicentina, near the northern city of Vicenza, at around 10pm local time on Thursday evening, according to a report by Italian media outlet Corriere della Sera.

Reports also stated that Baggio was struck on the head with the butt of a gun when he confronted the thieves before they locked the 57-year-old Baggio and his family in a room while they stole jewellery, watches and cash in an incident that lasted for around 40 minutes.

John Stones knows England’s draw with Denmark ‘was not some people’s cup of tea’

John Stones admits he understands the frustration of England fans following the dismal Euro 2024 draw with Denmark, but has backed the team to swiftly move on from the disappointment.

England could have advanced as Group C winners had they beaten Denmark in Frankfurt but instead put in a poor showing in a 1-1 draw.

Harry Kane had put Gareth Southgate’s side ahead only for Morten Hjulmand to level with a fine long-range strike as Denmark then enjoyed the better of proceedings.

England have been ‘trying to find a solution in midfield’ for eight years, says Southgate

Gareth Southgate has admitted that England have been “trying to find a solution in midfield” for eight years.

The Three Lions put in a disappointing performance in their second Euro 2024 group game on Thursday night (20 June), drawing 1-1 with Denmark.

At full-time, Southgate raised ongoing midfield issues as a reason behind the team’s struggles, after Trent Alexander-Arnold was again deployed there.

“We have been trying to find a solution in midfield for seven or eight years,” he said, “If we hadn’t had Declan Rice for the last few years, I don’t know where we’d have been.”

Netherlands vs France prediction

France will certainly be troubled by the speed of the Dutch attack but they also have the depth in their own attack to keep going forward, again and again.

Eventually, they find a way through.

Netherlands 2-3 France.

What is the early team news?

Brian Brobbey is the only Dutch player likely to miss out but even he could end up being an option from the bench for Ronald Koeman. The head coach may not make many changes from his opening game lineup, though Gini Wijnaldum may have done enough from the bench to give them control they’ll require against France.

France’s big concern is of course Kylian Mbappe and there’s no confirmation of how long he’ll be out for as yet, though it looks improbable he’ll be featuring against the Dutch. The options for Didier Deschamps are varied, but he could either bring in another of several pacey wide men, or push Marcus Thuram wide and start Olivier Giroud up front.
