Kylian Mbappe leaves France game covered in blood as fans shower forward with whistles

France and the Netherlands played out a 0-0 draw in their second Group D game of Euro 2024, a result that all but guaranteed both teams a place in the last 16.

Antoine Griezmann, captaining the side with Kylian Mbappe on the bench after breaking his nose against Austria, had an excellent chance in each half but twice stumbled over the ball.

Both sets of fans had cause to celebrate - the Dutch when Xavi Simons found the net in the second half and the French when the effort was ruled out for offside - and, despite both sides pushing for a winner, they had to be content with a point each.

France and the Netherlands are level on four points at the top of the group standings, with Austria on three, while Poland have no points and cannot advance. France face Poland in their final group game with the Dutch taking on Austria.

FT Netherlands 0-0 France

It seems like a fair though disappointing result for the neutrals. Both teams had changes with France arguably creating the better opportunities to score.

The Netherlands had a goal disallowed but didn’t create much else. A game to forget and move on from for both sides.

Full-time! Netherlands 0-0 France

90+5 mins: It’s a draw!

No goals and a point each for France and the Netherlands who both secure passage into the next round. The final standings in Group D are still to be decided but at a minimum the teams will finish as one of the better third place finishers.

Xavi Simons’ second half goal was the closest the game saw to a winner only for VAR to controversially rule it out for offside.

Netherlands 0-0 France

90+2 mins: Kante makes a late run into the box and is fed the ball. He looks to shoot but Weghorst sprints back, sticks out a leg and deflects the strike out for a corner.

Nothing comes from the set piece but France have increased the tempo. They’re going for the late goal.

Netherlands 0-0 France

90 mins: Five minutes of added time to play in Leipzig. Will there be a winner?

Netherlands 0-0 France

87 mins: This game has had a few decent moments, mostly in the first half, but there’s been a lack of ruthlessness and urgency from both teams.

The Netherlands will be the happier side, they’ve defended well and France haven’t been clinical in the final third.

Netherlands 0-0 France

84 mins: There’s going to be no input from Kylian Mbappe today. He must still be worried about his broken nose to risk a knock when a draw will send France through to the knockouts.

A floaty ball comes over the top towards Olivier Giroud but he can’t gather it.

Netherlands 0-0 France

81 mins: Inside the last 10 minutes now. There hasn’t been a goalless draw at Euro 2024 yet, will this match be the first one?

There’s still plenty of time for one of the teams to get themselves ahead, and most likely, pick up all three points.

Netherlands 0-0 France

78 mins: Memphis Depay makes way for Wout Weghorst who scored the winner for the Netherlands against Poland. A corner comes into the French box and is won by Virgil van Dijk.

He nods the ball across to Weghorst but he’s flagged offside.

Netherlands 0-0 France

75 mins: The game is all square again with 15 minutes to play. It’s a harsh on for the Netherlands but Dumfries was stood close to the goalkeeper who could possibly have leapt across to reach Simons’ shot.

It’s a subjective one with the BBC commentators not happy that the goal got ruled out.

Olivier Giroud and Kingsley Coman are brought on for France with Marcus Thuram and Ousmane Dembele taken off. For the Dutch, Simons, Jerdy Schouten and Jeremie Frimpong have been replaced with Lutsharel Geertruida, Joey Veerman and Gini Wijnaldum.
