Manchester United vs Man City LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction today
Follow all the reaction from Old Trafford after the Premier League champions took all three points in the derby
Under-fire Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces fresh scrutiny and pressure after Manchester City provided their latest Old Trafford humbling.
A fortnight on from the embarrassing 5-0 home humiliation at the hands of rivals Liverpool, the Red Devils fell to another one-sided defeat as they returned to the scene of the crime for the 186th Manchester derby.
Pep Guardiola’s men cruised to a victory far more comfortable than the 2-0 scoreline suggested, but Eric Bailly’s own goal and a preventable Bernardo Silva effort was enough to ease past United.
Solskjaer had called the loss to Liverpool the darkest day of his near three-year reign and the manner of this loss to their neighbours will lead to renewed pressure during the international break.
Man United 0-1 Man City
22 mins: Guardiola barks some instructions to his side, perhaps sensing that United are there for the taking if City can grab a second while they are so clearly on top. The Old Trafford crowd are desperate for their side to give them something to get behind - but they’ve had no possession in the City half so far.
Man United 0-1 Man City
20 mins: Ronaldo makes a run in behind but is flagged offside, before booting the ball away in frustration. De Bruyne goes down after Maguire caught him in a challenge, but he’s back up and able to continue.
Man United 0-1 Man City
18 mins: Bernardo and De Bruyne are running this match. They link up again on the edge of the United box but De Bruyne’s poked ball through to Foden runs behind for a goal kick.
Man United 0-1 Man City
16 mins: It’s all City at the moment. They’re first to every ball and the Old Trafford crowd are starting to get restless, given the passive start United have made. Fernandes draws another foul in the corner after Foden’s cross is blocked - most of his touches so far have come in United’s defensive third.
Man United 0-1 Man City
13 mins: City continue to knock the ball around Old Trafford with confidence. Early goals are so crucial for Guardiola’s side, who often become frustrated the longer they go without opening the scoring. De Bruyne is finding lots of space out in the right channel but a ball in towards the box evades Foden.
Man United 0-1 Man City
10 mins: City continue to attack on the front foot, as Fernandes relieves some pressure by drawing a foul after City lose the ball. It goes straight back to City, through, and the visitors are in complete control.
How costly could Maguire’s early header be? He should have done better.
GOAL! Man United 0-1 Man City (BAILLY OG 7’)
It’s a nightmare start for United, and a horrible moment for Eric Bailly. Following Maguire’s header, City go down the other end and twice threaten with dangerous crosses into the box. Walker’s delivery from the right is almost steered in by Gundogan as panic spreads in the United defence, before Cancelo whips in another cross from the left. Bailly meets it at the front post but gets his clearance horribly wrong, as it beats De Gea and ends up in his own net.
Man United 0-0 Man City
5 mins: Chance! Shaw whips in a lovely ball from the free kick and Maguire is able to beat Dias to the ball. The United defender can’t keep his header down and it flies over the bar.
Man United 0-0 Man City
4 mins: United are dropping really deep when City have the ball, almost as a 5-4-1. Ronaldo is the only player who isn’t dropping in to a defensive position, but the Portuguese draws a foul from Jesus on the left as United make their first foray forwards.
