Manchester United vs Man City LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction today
Follow all the reaction from Old Trafford after the Premier League champions took all three points in the derby
Under-fire Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces fresh scrutiny and pressure after Manchester City provided their latest Old Trafford humbling.
A fortnight on from the embarrassing 5-0 home humiliation at the hands of rivals Liverpool, the Red Devils fell to another one-sided defeat as they returned to the scene of the crime for the 186th Manchester derby.
Pep Guardiola’s men cruised to a victory far more comfortable than the 2-0 scoreline suggested, but Eric Bailly’s own goal and a preventable Bernardo Silva effort was enough to ease past United.
Solskjaer had called the loss to Liverpool the darkest day of his near three-year reign and the manner of this loss to their neighbours will lead to renewed pressure during the international break.
GOAL! Man United 0-2 Man City (BERNARDO 45’)
City double their lead on the stroke of half time, and it’s another sloppy goal for United to concede! Bernardo started the move as he switched play to Cancelo before bursting to the back post. Cancelo’s whipped cross was not dealt with by Maguire or Shaw as the United defenders hesitated, and Bernardo was able to divert it back towards goal. It squirms past De Gea at his near post - and that has to go down as an error.
Man United 0-1 Man City
43 mins: A mix up between Cancelo and De Bruyne sees Ronaldo receive the ball on the halfway line, as United looked to break. Ronaldo lost it immediately, though, as City got back and recovered possession.
Man United 0-1 Man City
41 mins: That’s a bit loose from City, as Cancelo hits a switch of play out for a throw in. But United hand the initiative right back as Shaw concedes possession. Given how dominant City have been, I think United would take being 1-0 down at half time.
Man United 0-1 Man City
39 mins: Chance! Fernandes slips in Wan-Bissaka, who has Ronaldo on the outside of him. Ronaldo fires at goal but it’s straight at Ederson, although he was offside. That would have been a chance if Ronaldo had held his run.
Man United 0-1 Man City
38 mins: United settle themselves down with a spell of possession - their first in about 10 minutes - before there’s a good tussle between Bernardo and McTominay in midfield. The Portuguese has been brilliant so far, both on and off the ball.
Man United 0-1 Man City
34 mins: Incredible - this is Man City vs De Gea right now. The Spaniard makes two more saves in quick succession to keep City at bay - the pick a save to his right to stop a De Bruyne drive from the angle. A second City goal is only a matter of time, surely.
Man United 0-1 Man City
32 mins: Save again from De Gea, to deny a second United own goal! Foden skips past Wan-Bissaka on the left and drills a low ball across the face. Lindelof rather stumbles into it, and De Gea is called into action to make the block with his feet after the defender diverted it on target.
Man United 0-1 Man City
28 mins: What a save! De Gea keeps United in it! Foden is somehow afforded the freedom of the left wing and is slipped in by Gundogan. His cut-back finds De Bruyne, whose shot is blocked and falls to Jesus. The Brazilian looks to swivel and finish into the corner from six yards, but De Gea springs to his left to tip it over the bar. It’s a stunning stop.
De Gea is then called into action again to deny Cancelo from the edge, before City flight the ball to Cancelo from the corner and his volley flies over the top.
Man United 0-1 Man City
26 mins: Save! That’s better from the home side. United come again and work the ball out to Shaw on the left, his ball finds Ronaldo in the box and he is able to connect with a left-footed volley at goal. It’s straight at Ederson, but the City keeper has to work to turn it behind for a corner. City clear, but that’s given the Old Trafford crowd some encouragement.
