This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

De Zerbi won't be happy with his team's performances in the opening 45 minutes and they will need to see a vast improvement to be able to get something from this game. City have looked back to their best after two consecutive Premier League defeats before today. Doku has been the standout player so far, and it was a difficult half for Milner who has the task of dealing with the tricky winger. A reaction is needed from Brighton, and Guardiola will be hoping to see a carbon copy of the first half when the players return to the pitch.

City go into the break with a 2-0 lead over Brighton. Guardiola's side opened the scoring early in the first half, with Alvarez finding himself in space in the box after some excellent work down the left from Doku. The Argentine dispatched the ball beyond Steele with an unorthodox finish. The Seagulls struggled to get going and their day got worse after Welbeck suffered an injury shortly after the first goal. The Sky Blues doubled their lead later in the half as Haaland pounced on a mistake in the middle of the pitch and found the back of the net from just outside the box.

The pace of the game has started to slow down as City appear to be content with going into the break with a 2-0 lead. Guardiola's side are keeping possession and staying patient, with Brighton sitting back and absorbing the pressure.
