From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Elsewhere, Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan, Leicester bought Dennis Praet, Mo Besic joined Sheffield United and, in one of the more unexpected deals of the day, Manchester City signed Derby's Scott Carson on loan. John McGinn has signed a new five-year contract with Aston Villa.
The midfielder was mooted as a target for Manchester United earlier in the window and was valued at £50m by the club.
“I have loved every minute of my time at Aston Villa and I am delighted to commit myself to the club for the long term," said McGinn.
Nathan Redmond has agreed a new four-year contract at Southampton.
The English striker has made 129 appearances and scored 18 goals for the club in his three seasons at St Mary's.
“I’m really happy to have signed, and I'm just wanting to get the season up and going now.
“We've got a great group of players here, who I've been with for the last three years. I see them every single day and it's a pleasure to go out there and perform with them at the weekend and train hard with them every single week. I feel like we can hopefully build something special and to be a part of it for the next four years is good for me.”
Ralph Hasenhüttl said: “It is very good news for the club. He's a player who showed in the last season that he is very important for Southampton and I think it's a massive signal for the club, and for us all, that he wants to follow our way. It's a very positive day for us.”
David Luiz is currently undergoing his medical at Arsenal with an £8m fee agreed between Arsenal and Chelsea. This one looks like it will cross the line.

Brighton are close to signing Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy before the 5pm deadline.
The Seagulls have been interested in the player since the end of last season, however, they have left it late in the window to make a move for the player who has scored 11 goals in 120 appearances for the Terriers.
QPR are favourites to re-sign Nakhi Wells from Burnley on a season-long loan.
Birmingham, Middlesbrough, West Brom and Bristol have all been interested in the striker, but he looks set to spend another season at Loftus Road.
