While the Gunners secured the services of David Luiz and Kieran Tierney, their rivals Spurs brought in Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis having failed to finalise a transfer for Paulo Dybala.
Elsewhere, Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan, Leicester bought Dennis Praet, Mo Besic joined Sheffield United and, in one of the more unexpected deals of the day, Manchester City signed Derby's Scott Carson on loan.
