From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Last year's beaten finalists Liverpool received arguably the most favourable draw after being paired with Porto, while Manchester United face a daunting tie against Barcelona.
United and Liverpool will meet in the semi-finals if they reach the last four, with Tottenham or Manchester City facing the winner of the quarter-final between Ajax and Juventus.

If we believe the post below, looks like the teams changing the European landscape could be pitted against each other.
About to begin in Nyon.
I hear you ask, can this season's Champions League get any better after the topsy-turvy nature of the previous round.
Well, every team has overcome some sort of difficulty and therefore have more than merited their place in the last eight as well as potential semi-final places.
Let's see what it brings.
And here we are as Pedro Pinto walks on to the stage to open proceedings, with the coveted trophy behind him.
And now the highlights reel of all the last-16 ties plays as we wait for Giorgio Marchetti who has been warming up backstage for a while now.
Marchetti is just leading the parties present through the procedures of the draw and all the possible conundrums that could be thrown up by it.
Everyone nervously waits as our first guest is introduced through another UEFA montage klaxon, this time for former Inter Milan golakeeper Julio Cesar.
"It was incredible to win this trophy" says former QPR keeper Cesar.
Guess we can tell that by this expression back in 2010.
