From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spurs are looking to reach the last four of the Champions League for just the second time in their history, with their one and only semi-final appearance coming in 1961/62 when they suffered a 4-3 aggregate defeat against Portuguese side Benfica.
Their task could not be any harder if the bookmakers are to be believed as City were pre-draw favourites to win the entire Champions League, giving Mauricio Pochettino’s side the worst possible outcome.
But they at least know what to expect in facing City, having pushed them close in a 1-0 defeat in the Premier League back in October. Furthermore, not only will they face City across the two legs in mid-April, but they also meet Pep Guardiola’s side for a third time in the league on Saturday 20 April, pitting the two sides together three times in the space of 10 days.
The two Premier League clubs watched on as both Ajax and Juventus were drawn out in the first tie of the last eight, ensuring that there would be at least one all-Premier League tie due to the presence of four English clubs in the quarter-finals.
And while Liverpool and Manchester United avoided each other in the remainder of the draw, it was Spurs and Manchester City who were placed together to renew their domestic rivalry next month.
The first leg will be played on Tuesday 9 April and Spurs hope to be in place to stage the match at their new stadium in north London, although Wembley Stadium remains on standby should any further delays arise.
The return leg at the Etihad Stadium will then take place on Wednesday 17 April.
Whoever emerges from the tie victorious will then face either Ajax or Juventus in the semi-finals, hosting the first leg before travelling abroad for the second leg, and it means that neither Spurs nor City can face United, Liverpool, Barcelona or Porto until the final.
