From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Antoine Griezmann's controversial first-half penalty handed Atletico Madrid a tight 1-0 win over gutsy Leicester in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.
The France striker was fouled outside the box by Marc Albrighton but referee Jonas Erikssson pointed to the spot - yet their European hopes remain alive.
It was deja vu for Leicester after another dubious penalty at the Vicente Calderon helped knock them out of the UEFA Cup in 1997.

We have kick-off in Madrid, where Craig Shakespeare has made one half-time substitution...
↵There's also been some rather unsavoury scenes near the ground ahead of kick-off, which you can read about here:
46 mins: And we have kick-off in Munich too, as Ribery immediately goes down following a challenge from Carvejal. But the referee is unmoved. Play on.
GOAL! Bayern Munich 1 Real Madrid 1 (Ronaldo 47')
Ronaldo finally scores again in the Champions League, and Real are level!
49 mins: That's Ronaldo's 99th European goal, and what a goal it was too. Carvajal scampered clear down the right and sent a low cross into the box, the perfect height for a half-volley. Ronaldo was only too happy to oblige.
He stepped across his marker and guided a low, cushioned shot into the corner of the net, out of the reach of Neuer. Superb.
50 mins: That could have been two for Ronaldo! Bale broke with the ball and cut it back for him, but Ronaldo's touch was uncharacteristically poor and he failed to bring the ball under his control before it was whipped off his toes.
54 mins: Atletico are still all over Leicester, who are playing as though they'd be more than content to take a 1-0 deficit back to England with them.
In Munich, Real remain on the frontfoot. Marcelo hits a sublime cross-field diagonal to Carvajal, who picks out Bale with a rapid cross into the box. The Welshman heads on goal from point-blank range, but another fingertip save from Neuer prevents the goal!
