From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Antoine Griezmann's controversial first-half penalty handed Atletico Madrid a tight 1-0 win over gutsy Leicester in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.
The France striker was fouled outside the box by Marc Albrighton but referee Jonas Erikssson pointed to the spot - yet their European hopes remain alive.
It was deja vu for Leicester after another dubious penalty at the Vicente Calderon helped knock them out of the UEFA Cup in 1997.

32 mins: Real Madrid's problems are compounding. Casemiro just took a whack in the middle of the park and is struggling, Thiago Alcántara caught him with a trailing boot as he cleared the ball downfield.
Vidal celebrates his goal
34 mins: Casemiro picks himself up after that challenge only to collapse in the middle of the park a couple of minutes later. Is he in genuine pain?
Doesn't look like it. He catches Vidal and then drops to the turf in feigned agony to atone for his sins.
37 mins: At this rate Real will be pleased if they can get in for half-time just the one goal down. Robben is continuing to raid down the right wing, and hangs another fine cross into the box, which Ramos heads away from danger. For now. Corner.
40 mins: It should be three in Munich! Robben skips past his man and flings yet another cross into the box, which Vidal meets with a cracking header. But his direction is off, and he sends the ball whistling past Navas's right post. That was so close.
42 mins: Good save Neuer! Ronaldo gets the ball 30 yards out with his back to goal, but there's only one thing on his mind. He turns, shoots, and it requires a diving save from the German to turn the ball around the post.
PENALTY IN MUNICH! Ribery feints, shoots on goal, and the ball is deflected wide by the shoulder of Carvajal.
The referee thinks about it, and then awards the penalty.
45 mins: But Vidal smashes the ball over the bar!
My word that was awful. David-Beckham-against-Portugal-at-Euro-2004 kind of awful. Vidal steps up and looks to bury the ball in the roof of the net, but instead gets far too much on it and whallops it over the bar.
Yikes.
Meanwhile, it's half-time in Madrid...
Leicester a goal down at the break.
And half-time in Munich, too!
Vidal scored the opener, missed a sitter and then blasted his penalty over the bar. He walks off down the tunnel for the half-time break in tears.
Real Madrid are still in this match, although they've been desperately poor so far.
