Roman Abramovich makes ‘incredibly difficult decision’ to sell Chelsea

Follow live reaction from this afternoon’s Premier League fixtures, after Chelsea swept Burnley aside in the second half to consolidate their place in the top four. Burnley will look back with regret after not taking their early chances but Chelsea were too good in the second half, with the returning Reece James producing an outstanding display on his first start since his injury lay-off. The wing-back fired Chelsea in front shortly after the break, as Thomas Tuchel’s side scored three times in the space of seven minutes.

Kai Havertz added the other two, steering in an excellent header from Christian Pulisic’s cross before tapping in James’ delivery from the right. Pulisic made it four for Chelsea late on to punish Burnley, who remain in the bottom three after suffering back-to-back defeats this week.

Elsewhere, Newcastle took a huge step towards survival after edging Brighton, while Brentford claimed an important win at Norwich to all but condemn Dean Smith’s side to the drop. Philippe Coutinho inspired Aston Villa to thrash Southampton, while Crystal Palace inflicted a third straight defeat for Wolves ahead of Liverpool’s evening clash with West Ham at Anfield.

Burnley 0-4 Chelsea

77 mins: Chelsea are cruising no and are making a potentially difficult afternoon look very easy indeed. Kovacic and Loftus-Cheek are on for Kante and James, who have both been excellent.

Chelsea head to Norwich on Thursday and should really have no problems there, on today’s evidence at least.

Mount is also off for Werner - which means Lukaku will be an unused substitute for Chelsea today.

NO GOAL! Norwich 0-3 Brentford

It almost went from bad to worse as Mbeumo bundled the ball into the net but the goal is ruled out for offside.

This is still Norwich’s lowest moment of the season so far, though.

GOAL! Burnley 0-4 Chelsea (PULISIC 70’)

Credit to Chelsea, they got through the first half and without the Burnley pressure and are now running wild at Turf Moor. Christian Pulisic adds a fourth for the Blues as he fires in from Saul’s cross.

It’s a poor mistake from Tarkowski as he should have cut it out, but Chelsea have raised it in the second half and Burnley have been unable to live with them.

NO GOAL! Norwich 0-3 Brentford

Norwich thought they had pulled one back thanks to Rashica, but the goal has been disallowed for offside. That sums up Norwich’s day.

Burnley 0-3 Chelsea

65 mins: There’s a real moment of concern for Chelsea as Reece James goes down on the touchline following a challenge from behind. It’s a sight that would have worried Chelsea fans after he had just returned from injury, but the England international is back up and is able to continue.

GOAL! Norwich 0-3 Brentford (TONEY pen 56’)

Could that be the nail in Norwich’s coffin? Toney steps up for his second penalty in quick succession. Tim Krul went the right way but the result was the same. What a win this looks to go for Brentford and it will leave Norwich at risk of being cut adrift at the bottom.

GOAL! Burnley 0-3 Chelsea (HAVERTZ 55’)

Another for Havertz and Chelsea have three goals in seven minutes! James is the provider as he gets around the outside, drills a ball across the face and Havertz bundles in from close range.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-1 Brighton (DUNK 55’)

GOAL! Aston Villa 4-0 Southampton (INGS 54’)

What an afternoon for the hosts at Villa Park! Coutinho has inspired Steven Gerrard’s side with a sublime performance and Danny Ings scores against his former team as Villa scored twice in as many minutes.
