Roman Abramovich makes ‘incredibly difficult decision’ to sell Chelsea

Follow live reaction from this afternoon’s Premier League fixtures, after Chelsea swept Burnley aside in the second half to consolidate their place in the top four. Burnley will look back with regret after not taking their early chances but Chelsea were too good in the second half, with the returning Reece James producing an outstanding display on his first start since his injury lay-off. The wing-back fired Chelsea in front shortly after the break, as Thomas Tuchel’s side scored three times in the space of seven minutes.

Kai Havertz added the other two, steering in an excellent header from Christian Pulisic’s cross before tapping in James’ delivery from the right. Pulisic made it four for Chelsea late on to punish Burnley, who remain in the bottom three after suffering back-to-back defeats this week.

Elsewhere, Newcastle took a huge step towards survival after edging Brighton, while Brentford claimed an important win at Norwich to all but condemn Dean Smith’s side to the drop. Philippe Coutinho inspired Aston Villa to thrash Southampton, while Crystal Palace inflicted a third straight defeat for Wolves ahead of Liverpool’s evening clash with West Ham at Anfield.

GOAL! Burnley 0-2 Chelsea (HAVERTZ 52’)

Goal rush! It’s a brilliant cross from Pulisic on his left foot from the right - and Havertz adds a lovely header across goal.

GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Chelsea (JAMES 47’)

Welcome back, Reece James! What a finish from the right-back, and he shows what Chelsea have been so desperately missing. He cuts inside and back out, before firing across Nick Pope and into the far corner.

HALF-TIME: Burnley 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea almost put themselves in danger as Rudiger looked to guide the ball out of play, only for McNeil to come back and pinch it off him on the byline. He couldn’t find the cross and Chelsea clear. The Blues will need to improve after the break.

We’ve reached half-time in all of the 3pm kick-offs.

GOAL! Aston Villa 2-0 Southampton (LUIZ 44’)

Brilliant move from Villa! Chambers plays a sublime switch of play out to Coutinho, who fires a cross to Douglas Luiz to finish from close range!

Coutinho then gets played through on goal and only has the keeper to beat but his chip bobbles wide!

Aston Villa 1-0 Southampton

Coutinho has been the standout player at Villa Park and has two chances in quick succession to double his team’s lead. First, he sends a fizzing shot narrowly wide, before Watkins tees him up with a pull-back. But Forster saves!

Burnley 0-0 Chelsea

It means the game at Turf Moor is the only one of the five Premier League 3pm kick-offs yet to see a goal. Chelsea have had the majority of the ball but the teams are equal in terms of chances created. Burnley might even argue that they should be ahead.

GOAL! Wolves 0-2 Crystal Palace (ZAHA pen 34’)

Palace double their lead, as Zaha converts from the spot. He smashes it into the top corner, a brilliant finish after he previously missed from the spot against Norwich, to put Palace in complete control. The penalty came as Schlupp was brought down in the box by Kilman. Wolves are just not up for this but Palace certainly are.
