Jake Paul says people don't think he's a 'real person' ahead of Tommy Fury fight

Jake Paul beat Nate Diaz by unanimous decision in their highly-anticipated boxing match in Dallas as he knocked down the mixed martial arts star en route to victory.

Diaz was fighting for the first time since leaving the UFC and proved an awkward opponent on his boxing debut in front of a Texas crowd that was hugely in his favour, although he lacked the power to really hurt his heavily-favoured opponent.

YouTuber Paul knocked him down in the fifth round of their 10-round contest but Diaz got back to his feet and made the final bell. However, the judges’ scorecards showed the relatively one-sided nature of the victory as he prevailed 97-92, 98-91, 98-91.

With his record as a professional boxer now at 7-1, attention turns to Paul’s next contest. He has offered Diaz $10m for a fight under MMA rules, with the former UFC star considering the offer, while a rematch to avenge his sole loss earlier this year against Tommy Fury – half-brother of world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson – could also be a possibility.

Relive the fight below.

Alan Sanchez vs Angel Beltran Villa

Round Two: Sanchez’s success at the end of the opening round gives him confidence coming into this one but he’s nailed with a left hook from Beltran who follows it up with a rapid flurry. A couple of punches land but Sanchez recovers his feet and strikes back at Beltran.

Beltran gets hit on the left side of his head and blood starts to leak from atop his left eye. The Southpaw responds with a fine punch to Sanchez’s temple and cuts his opponent.

Beltran now steps onto the front foot and both men trade blows to the body. A three punch combo from Sanchez ends the round.

Round One: Beltran fires a couple of heavy right hands early one to test Sanchez who is moving slickly as he evades. A nice body combo from Beltran almost pins Sanchez on the ropes but he manages to swivel away and get back into the centre of the ring.

Sanchez lands a solid jab before following up with a round right hook to the body. 30 seconds left in the opening round and Sanchez lands an overhand right to the face to ease the pressure on him and keep Beltran in check.

That was a good round and a hard one to judge. Sanchez may just have edged it with his finish.

This fight is an eight-round bout.

Mexican southpaw Angel Beltran has a record of 17 wins and one defeat while fellow Mexican Alan Sanchez has 22 wins, five draws and one defeat.

This one should be a cracking opener.

The opening fight of the night is about to get going. The ring walks are underway with Angel Beltran introduced first. He plays up a little bit to the crowd and looks fairly relaxed.

Alan Sanchez follows him out in a slightly less excitable manner. He looks more focused for this one.

Paul vows to ‘finish’ Diaz’s career

In an explosive press conference earlier this week Jake Paul vowed to “finish” Nate Diaz’s career tonight.

“I’m going to bully the bully,” Paul said, “This little guy you love so much is going to be dead on Saturday night. I’m gong to finish his career.

“I’m bullying the bully, is he f***ing dumb? This motherf***** can’t even speak. I’m going to weather the storm and knock him out. He’s never been hit by someone like me.”

Tonight’s main event is scheduled to go 10 rounds, having been extended from the eight initially planned due to Nate Diaz’s negotiating.

Jake Paul has never previously had a 10-round fight and this is Diaz’s first professional boxing bout so both men will have to judge the distance for themselves.

Diaz suggested he would have preferred for tonight’s fight to be shorter but pushed for it to be extended just to play mind games with Paul.

“I’d rather have less rounds, but it’s just funny to see him make a deal over it anyway,” Diaz said. “I just wanted to see what he wanted to do. It was funny. Who wants to fight for longer?”

Nate Diaz reveals ‘secret’ that he and Jake Paul share

Nate Diaz has said he knows the ‘secret’ to Jake Paul’s success as a boxer, while warning the YouTube star: ‘I’m in on it, too.’

UFC icon Diaz, 38, will make his professional boxing debut on Saturday, facing Paul in Dallas, Texas. The bout will mark Diaz’s first fight since leaving the UFC in September, when he submitted Tony Ferguson. Meanwhile, 26-year-old Paul last fought in February, suffering his first loss as he was beaten on points by Tommy Fury.

Prior to that result, American Paul was unbeaten with wins over ex-UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley, as well as mixed martial arts star Ben Askren. Paul knocked out Askren, beat Woodley on points then via knockout in a rematch, before defeating Silva via decision.

Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte fight cancelled after anti-doping test

Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte’s highly anticipated second fight has been cancelled after Whyte returned “adverse analytical findings” during a random anti-doping test, according to promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.

Whyte has categorically denied that he took the reported substance and has asked for time to prove his innocence.

The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association said it had informed the Association of Boxing Commissions and the British Boxing Board of Control that a “random anti-doping protocol” undertaken by Whyte had returned the result, leading to the bout being called off and an investigation being launched.
