A statement was released on the royal couple’s official Instagram account, revealing that the baby was born before 6am and weighs 7lbs. 3oz.
The first pictures of the couple with their newborn were revealed on Wednesday. The newborn was seen swaddled in a white blanket wearing a white hat.
The couple later announced on Instagram that they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

"It is a spectacular thing," Smith added. "The world is ecstatic".
Disney made a Winnie the Pooh animation to celebrate Archie's birth
There have been thousands of tributes to the royal baby emerging on social media since Meghan gave birth on Monday, but this Disney one might just top them all.
Artist Kim Raymond created an adorable Winnie the Pooh animation to celebrate the arrival of Archie Harrison that depicts the famous bear plodding through Windsor to deliver a book to the royal couple, who are then depicted reading it alongside a cot with Archie's name on it. 10/10 for cute points.
Stephen King teases that Harry and Meghan's next baby will be named after another Archie Comics character
Author Stephen King is the latest famous face to have his say on the royal baby's name, choosing to make a joke in reference to Archie Comics, on which the popular Netlix series Riverdale is based.
"The second royal baby will be Veronica if a girl, Jughead if a boy," the It writer said, referencing two other characters in Archie Comics, who are also included in Riverdale.

More viewers tuned into watch Archie Harrison's debut to the world than Prince Louis'
More people watched the debut of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Archie Harrison, to the world than Prince Louis, according to a British air satellite TV provider.
According to new research from TV service Freesat, BBC News saw a 26 per cent increase in viewer numbers compared to the previous week when Archie made his appearance on television on Wednesday 8 May.
This is compared to a 4 per cent rise in viewers, week-on-week, for Prince Louis’ debut to the public during his “birth week”.
Earlier this week, Prince Harry and Meghan proudly announced the birth of their son on Monday 6 May. As a result, Sky News recorded a 28 per cent spike in viewers week-on-week, while BBC News experienced a 42 week-on-week increase.
Alistair Thom, Managing Director for Freesat commented on the findings: “Whether or not people have fallen in love with these modern Royals or are stalwart fans of the monarchy – it’s fair to say no one can resist the sight of a new-born and their besotted parents.”

According to property website Rightmove, searches for homes in Windsor, southeast England spiked by 35 per cent after the early-morning birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was announced on Monday.
The trio currently live in Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate and returned to the their home within hours of their newborn’s birth at an undisclosed location.

According to Rightmove, the average price for a home in Windsor is £567,000 but asking prices in the famous town dropped by 1.4 per cent this year.
However, the arrival of the latest member of the royal family might be set to change the financial prospects for the area.
“The British public adores the Royal Family and you only have to look at how many people lined the streets for Harry and Meghan’s wedding to see that. So, to be able to buy a property which would effectively make you a neighbour of the Duke and Duchess is something really special,” said Rightmove’s Miles Shipside.
Prince Harry has already experienced sleepless nights
During the launch of the Invictus Games 2020 countdown in The Hague on Thursday, Prince Harry’s friend JJ Chalmers gave some insight on how the royal is finding the first few days of fatherhood.
Scottish television presenter Chalmers, reportedly recalled a conversation with Harry this week with People, revealing: “"He said it’s amazing but it’s hard work. He said that [Archie] slept for the first 24 hours like all babies do . . . and then he woke up."
Chalmers later added: “I see the guy with a buzzing smile on his face still. Like any father, he lights up even more when he speaks about his son and how proud he is of his wife and what she’s doing right now in his absence.”
Jimmy Fallon sings a tribute to royal baby ArchieThe television host dedicated a song to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first child, Archie Harrison, on The Tonight Show on Thursday evening.
Grabbing a guitar to perform his royal-inspired song, Fallon started to croon: “Hello, Archie, you’re the royal baby.”

LegoLand Windsor grants free entry to all those named Archie
On Thursday, LegoLand Windsor announced on Twitter that it was celebrating the arrival of the royal baby by granting free entry (until 12 July 2019) to anyone who shares the name Archie.
