Dara Ó Briain criticises BBC for firing Danny Baker over ‘racist’ royal baby tweet
Dara Ó Briain has defended fellow comedian Danny Baker, who was fired from the BBC after tweeting about the royal baby using a photo of a chimpanzee.
Baker, 61, was accused of racism after seemingly mocking Meghan Markle’s heritage in a now deleted post that featured an image of two people holding hands with a small monkey dressed in a suit. He later confirmed that he had been by sacked BBC 5 Live on Twitter.
Ó Briain tweeted in response to the decision: “What? Danny Baker got fired? But he immediately apologised and deleted the tweet! I mean, literally, in the event of mistakenly causing offence, what else can you do? Genuinely amazed by that.”
After a backlash from fans, he added: “Also amazed by how many thought that by posting this, I was excusing the original tweet. Of course I wasn’t. The Irish had a century of that monkey s*** too, y’know. Ultimately, though, I’d like that to hope if/when I f*** up, you might accept an apology...”

Royal memorabilia firm making royal baby bags and tea towels
A royal memorabilia firm in Spilsby, Lincolnshire is currently making thousands of royal baby-inspired items, according to BBC Radio Lincolnshire.
Sharing a video of the memorabilia manufacturing process on Twitter, the radio’s social media account explained that the firm is currently producing bags, aprons, and tea towels following the birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
At the end of the video, the camera zooms into a tea towel with the name “Archie” emblazoned across the top which is printed above the newborn’s date of birth and an illustration of a horse and teddy bear with a crown atop its head.
A teddy bear designed to celebrate the birth of Royal baby Archie Harrison sold out before it even went into production
Created by teddy bear factory Merrythought in Shropshire, the bear was designed to have the new baby's name on his paw but fans crashed the firm's website to order the bear before the official announcement of the name on Wednesday afternoon.
A limited edition run of just 250 of the retailer’s special occasion bears was organised by the firm.
Each teddy bear, which retail for £145, features the new baby's details beautifully embroidered onto the paws in silver thread, and is finished with a coordinating luxury satin bow.
For the time-being, baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor does not have an official royal title.
According to royal correspondent Richard Palmer, while Archie may become a prince or HRH when Prince Charles becomes king, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have "expressed no preference".
Baby Archie may have stolen the show during his first official public appearance on Wednesday, but a piece of jewelry worn by the Duchess of Sussex has also captured the public's attention.
The duchess, who wore a white sleeveless belted trench dress by Wales Bonner, accessorised with a yellow-gold turquoise necklace by Jennifer Meyer - which retails for £576 ($750) and has since sold out.
Of the duchess's choice, Meyer told People: "To be part of such an incredible, historic, beautiful moment was an honour."

On Friday, Baker took to Twitter to pen a lengthy thread explaining how he "got myself into this mess".
