In the early hours of Monday 6 May, the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a baby boy, with Prince Harry by her side.

A statement was released on the royal couple’s official Instagram account, revealing that the baby was born before 6am and weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

The first pictures of the couple with their newborn were revealed on Wednesday. The newborn was seen swaddled in a white blanket wearing a white hat.

The couple later announced on Instagram that they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Windsor pub unveils new 'Windsor Baby' brew to mark arrival of Baby Sussex

The Prince Harry Pub in Windsor has unveiled a new pale ale to mark the birth of the royal baby.

The new drink, as revealed on Twitter by Yahoo's royal correspondent, Danielle Stacey, is called "Windsor Baby".

The royal baby is expected to be revealed to the public by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shortly.

The announcement of the birth of the baby was made on the couple's recently launched Instagram account on Monday.

"We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019," the statement reads.

"Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spoken publicly for the first time since the birth of their son on Monday.

In a photocall at St George’s Hall, Windsor Castle, Meghan revealed her newborn, whose name has not yet been announced, has the “sweetest temperament” and is “really calm”.

“It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing,” the 37-year-old added. “I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy. He’s just been the dream so it’s been a special couple of days.”

During a walkabout in Leipzig city centre, the Duchess of Cornwall was shown a photograph of her new grandchild for the first time.

Looking at the photograph on a mobile phone, Camilla smiled and said: "Thank you for showing this to me".

The blanket that was wrapped around Baby Sussex as he was presented to the world by Prince Harry and Meghan was manufactured by G.H. Hurt & Son, it has been reported.

"The shawl used is our 'Leaves and Flowers Baby Shawl', in white," the company said in a statement shared on Twitter.

"We feel so proud and honoured that Harry and Meghan have chosen our beautiful merino wool lacy knitted baby shawls and in doing so have continued a royal tradition now going back over 70 years."

According to bookmaker Coral, Alexander and Spencer are the most likely names for Baby Sussex.

Other names in the running include Arthur, Albert and James.
