A statement was released on the royal couple’s official Instagram account, revealing that the baby was born before 6am and weighs 7lbs. 3oz.
The first pictures of the couple with their newborn were revealed on Wednesday. The newborn was seen swaddled in a white blanket wearing a white hat.
The couple later announced on Instagram that they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Meghan Markle wears Wales Bonner for first photocall with newborn son

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex was wearing a dress designed by Grace Wales Bonner for the photocall with her newborn son in Windsor this morning.
Wales Bonner is a British fashion designer who launched her eponymous label in 2014.
The Queen is due to meet Baby Sussex for the first time today.
Prince Philip met the baby for the first time when he bumped into the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with their newborn son in Windsor.
"We just bumped into the duke as we were walking by, it was just so nice," Meghan said.
"It will be a nice moment to introduce the baby to the whole family."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have thanked well-wishers for the support they've received following the birth of their son.
"Today the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to share their first public moment as a family," a statement reads on the couple's verified Instagram account.
"They are so incredibly grateful for the warm wishes and support they've received from everyone around the world, since welcoming their son two days ago."

Reverend Michael Curry, the American bishop who delivered a stirring sermon at Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding, has said the birth of their son is "special for all of us".
"The nice thing is and all of us who have watched them grow together know they have their way of doing things," the reverend told CNN.
"They honour the tradition of their family and their culture but they have their way of doing things, they have a habit of bringing a variety of worlds together."

The photographs of Prince Harry and Meghan with their son which were shared on their verified Instagram account were taken by Chris Allerton.
Allerton was the couple's wedding party photographer in May 2018.
Photographer Dominic Lipinski has said he was "really pleased (and more than a little stressed)" to take the first pictures of Baby Sussex with Prince Harry and Meghan at Windsor Castle today.

The newest member of the royal family was born in Windsor on 6 May and is seventh in line to the throne.
Speaking from St George's Hall at Windsor Castle today, the Duchess said: "It's magic, it's pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world so I'm really happy."
Meghan added that her two-day old son "has the sweetest temperament" and is "really calm".
Archie Harrison will not have a courtesy title, Buckingham Palace confirms
As suspected, the royal baby will not have a courtesy title.
On Wednesday Buckingham Palace revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had chosen to name their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
He will not have a courtesy title, despite suspicions that he would become the Earl of Dumbarton, which is Prince Harry's subsidiary title.
