In the early hours of Monday 6 May, the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a baby boy, with Prince Harry by her side.

A statement was released on the royal couple’s official Instagram account, revealing that the baby was born before 6am and weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

The first pictures of the couple with their newborn were revealed on Wednesday. The newborn was seen swaddled in a white blanket wearing a white hat.

The couple later announced on Instagram that they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

According to bookmakers, Alexander and Spencer are currently the favourite names for the royal baby.

Naming the baby Spencer would pay homage to Prince Harry's late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, who was born Diana Frances Spencer.

Other names in the running include Philip, Oliver and Arthur, a moniker which Prince Louis has as a middle name.

George Clooney has responded to claims he could be named a godfather for Baby Sussex.

"That would be a bad idea," the Hollywood actor told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

"I'm the father of twins, and I can barely do that."

Free teddy bears to celebrate the arrival of the royal baby

The Build-A-Bear Workshop has announced it will donate 1,000 teddy bears to a variety of royal hospitals, infirmaries and maternity units across the UK to celebrate the arrival of the royal baby.

The toy retailer is also offering customers a 25 per cent discount for shoppers today by using the ROYALBABY discount code.

Senior managing director, Roger Parry, comments: "We love birthdays at Build-A-Bear, and we know the anticipation of a royal baby causes a wave of excitement worldwide. We wanted to share the excitement with parents of new babies all over the UK by giving them special bear hugs to commemorate such a special day.”

Meanwhile, Meghan gave birth to her and Prince Harry's son in the early hours of the morning in Windsor.

Royal commentators are reporting that the Queen will meet the royal baby for the first time today in Windsor.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to pose for photographs with their two-year-old son in a photocall today.

It's not clear whether or not they will announce his name.
